They say it's 80% food, 20% exercise that dictates your loss.

(Who Are They ? - I've read it on internet threads, in 2 or 3 diet/motivation books and heard 2 athletes say it)

Here's what I don't get. .. if you eat x amount of calories you gain a pound. If you reduce by x amount of calories you lose a pound. So how come I haven't lost any damn pounds. If you do the math I should weigh like 3 lbs now!

That as the challenge. If the calories in- calories out theory were true we would all be skinny. The answer is metabolism. Yes- too few calories will stall weight loss, even if it's all Protein. Immediately post op it is normal to get in about 450-550 cals daily.... But that picks up as you heal. So how many grams of protein are you eating, what kind of carbs? Has the Doc checked thyroid, serum insulin and cortisol levels? You may have an underlying metabolic problem

All of my labs are perfect. I have gotten between 65 &80 g Protein amd 60-65oz daily.

Im in a similar situation. 3 weeks out 10 lbs lost only. I gained in hospital 12 lbs which was prob from fluids in iv I lost that and 10 lbs. I have 120 to loose. This is going to be a long long ride. I thought there would be a honeymoon phase. I guess its bypassing me.#sadanddiscouraged#

I think we need a slow losers club. I would certainly be a member. I'm disappointed too. I thought I would lose a lot more quicker. I'm eating about 700 calories a day and appears I'm on track to lose 2 pounds a week. I know that's considered good in most circles, but after going through such a drastic surgery I thought it would be a better number. I knew it would slow up after a while too. Oh, well. Thanks for posting. Makes me not feel so alone.

The best suggestion is to first off stop looking at the scale. Try tracking your measurements instead, a lot of times when people feel they aren't losing especially in the first couple months post op, it is because there body is adjusting to the change so instead of straight burning fat it is converting it to muscle which takes up less space for the same amount of weight so you will see your measurements getting smaller. Also, how you feel is much more important that how much you weigh, within the first month post op I could tell I was doing well because I had more energy and felt better then I had ever felt in my life, now I am 11 months out and down 161 pounds. It is easy to fixate on the scale and not even notice the changes that are occurring. Good Luck.

I lost really quickly the first week and retained no Water in the hospital. This week, I swear, it's been down two, up 1.8, down 4, up 3. etc. But I'm down 3 pounds overall, this week. I'm somewhere around 3 weeks including 5 days of pre-op. If you graph out the trend, it is a downward slope with blips above and below where the general "trend" is.

I'm eating about 700 calories per day, no cheating, getting all of my Protein and fluids in. It has got to be metabolism driven. It's hard not to freak out about it but as long as the general trend is down we're doing what we are supposed to do. And this is to be expected.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
