Way too soon to be frustrated, plenty of time for that :) We've all been there, and I understand that it just can't come off fast enough! But it's normal to gain a little in the beginning, it's just Water weight from the insult to your body from the surgery. Just follow your plan and the scale will drop. And - it's normal to not lose at all for periods of time, and it's normal to see a big drop for no apparent reason. Weight just doesn't come of in a predictable way, but I do think your body is shifting and adjusting all the time. Good luck.

I gained 10 pounds in the hospital. My MD warned me (it was all Water weight). In two weeks I had just barely returned to pre-surgical weight. BUT, since then I lose slowly but consistantly!

Don't expect a sprint. Expect a long slow process (This is forever, remember -- your stomach will not grow back).

Do me a favor...Don't fall into the trap of weighing yourself every single day....once a week, every two weeks, or like me every month and a half or longer....So frustrating to be glued to the scale..It does not tell the entire story....Michiganchick is right...good advice from her!! :)

If only this were an exact science...so frustrating when we're doing all the things we need to but we don't see movement where we'd like to see it. You are on the right track and if you give your body some time to heal and right itself, you'll start seeing things move in the right direction. Also, I agree with RJ...I only weigh once a week...I find it too emotionally wracking to do it any more often than that, and I find my biggest losses are the week after I've had a weigh-in where I've maintained or only lost a little (I think it makes me work harder lol).

Hang in there and remember that you have all of us here to support you!! :)

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.
