has anyone been sleeved that had 50-60 pounds to lose?

Recommended Posts

I had my sleeve November 5 at Hospital MI Doctor, surgeon was Dr. alejandro lopez.. I am down 15 pounds, I seem to lose a pound a day most days but today the scale went down 3.

I still am not able to eat pureed foods according to the diet plan I was given. I get a bit hungry at night. I have bought many types of Soups and deli Soups & try to strain out most of the solids in it. Miso has been a godsend. It has Protein in it and is soothing to my stomach, and also I've had it all my life.

I haven't even tried to figure out how many calories I am getting, just sticking to trying to get the liquids & Protein I am supposed to have. I don't really like anything in the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury sample box so I don't think I'll be buying more.

My cholesterol was 266, and have GERD so I do have some co-morbidities.

My back pain is less! I still have quite a bit of pain late at night and when I first get up is especially bad, but it's already better. 15 pounds and my feet hurt less too. Nobody I told thought I should have this surgery. Yet I know this is one of the best decisions I've ever made. Even if I weren't able to take off a lot of weight, if it keeps me from gaining 10 or 20 pounds a year - it will be worth it. That's just who I am, I open my eyes to the writing on the wall and I take action. I got a security system before my house got broken into - have had one for 20 years. I am told that is unusual - usually people do the security system as a result of a break in. Anyway I am so relieved that I have a better shot now at getting back to my ideal weight and staying there. I feel like I've been given another shot at life.

It IS butterflies for me - feels like they are in my new wee stomach at times. Thats a better description than outright nausea. Anyway - i've list 30lbs including pre-op and now 2 weeks post surgery. To those who are worried: it's well worth it and the post op pain is minor. Go well everyone.

I think that anyone that has to losse 50lbs or more can get it done. Mexico surgeons also have their weight limit i was told if i was 170 or less they would not do the surgery. Here in the US doctors would gladly do it "if it was self pay" however it ts way to expensive. So it comes down to insurance... they dont want to pay that so they make restrictions which the doctors have to abide by and that is why is so hard for them to say yes i'll do the surgery. IT's all about the money Baby didn't you know!!!! money walks, talks, jumps and buys you a new gut! SO yeah pretty muc everyone can have surgery if they wanted if they have 50lbs or more too loose however if you don't train yourself on how to eat and excersice its a waste of money.

Im not sure why people say you dont need it for 50 or 60 pounds... I have done everything BUT surgery to lose weight... weight watchers, Jenny Craig, nutri system, personal trainer, visalus shakes. I am only 5'5 and have no co-morbites, but every woman in my family is obese to morbidly obese, and for me this is more of a preventative measure. I have no problem eating healthy, but my genetics really suck, and I'm not going to risk going down the road of all the other women in my family. Its not pretty!

For me, the pain and discomfort, complete change of lifestyle, risk of complications (which are very real if you read the posts here of sleeves gone bad) are not worth it for 50 lbs. Everyone is different. You may have to go to Mexico as many US doctors (the better ones) will not operate on BMI's below 35, and even BMI's 35-40 must have co-morbidities. Good luck to you however you choose.

I have 60lbs to lose to get to a bmi of around 20 (I have a thin bone structure so can go down without looking extremely skinny, and way too much fat as my body fat is currently 41%!), and I'm surprised that I haven't had to do much of a convincing talk to those very close to me! My mother and best friends are very supportive, my husband is cautiously supportive; I have not yet spoken to the surgeon (my appointment is in three days), but as I will be self-pay I hope he won't reject. I've been a yo-yo dieter my whole life (dieting since I was 11; I'm 31 now); and I'm ok with losing but just can not maintain. The weight is taking a toll on everything, just everything.

I hope that the doc will understand my situation and agree to operate. I live in Turkey, where 30-35bmi's are not operated very much, but given my insulin resistance, back pains and family history of obesity and cardiovascular diseases, I just want to take things in hand and get a tool which will be worth my efforts.

To Derranged: "Mexicali-gal"]I had my surgery with Dr Aceves back in September 2012. I had 50-60 lbs to lose also. Great surgeon, great care and great everything. It was and still is one of the best decisions I have ever made. I am certain I spent way over his surgery fee in fad diets, diet pills , programs etc over the years of trying to lose weight. I only wish this process had been available to do many years ago. But better late then never. I am certain you will be pleased with your decision. Take it one day at a time and I hope and pray you encounter no problems (I had none) and will be as thrilled with your results as I am. I say go for it. I would still be on the diet train of pills, programs and spending money on fitness trainers, gym memberships. For myself, absolutely no regrets! Good luck with whatever decision works for you! ????

I was one of the so called lightweights that the people around me would ask why i was having the surgery. I had yo-yo for so many years that half the time, I did not even realize how much I weighed. I live in Saudi Arabia but chose to go to Cancun to have my surgery done my the wonderful Dr Sergio verboonen. I went to him because he came highly recommended by sleevers here in this country. I could have gone to Lebanon or the Philipines but I had send the results from this doc. While I chose to go to Cancun, which was a bit more expensive, he also performs the procedure in Tijuana as well. One thing I liked about this doc is that he had had the surgery himself.

As has been mentioned, we will lose the weight a bit slower that those that are heavier but at the same time, I feel that I looked healthy the entire time and I did not have a lot of excess skin, etc. I am now three years out and at the two year point, I became smaller than I wanted for my age. My face started to look kind of saggy and old. That said, I kept up my Protein and also gained a bit of weigh back. I actually gained more than I wanted so am now back on a downward journey.

And it is a journey. The sleeve is a tool, not a fix all.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
