No weight loss - 8 days post op

Recommended Posts

I am trying to stay positive but 8 days post op and I haven't lost a pound. I came home from the hospital at 200 lbs and here I sit day after day. My Protein intake is about 60g daily and can do almost 50 oz of Water (not easy getting it all in) Besides the Ensure High Protein and water I can't get much else in. Why aren't I losing? I am definitely wonder what I've done to myself, without the positive reinforcement of weight loss it's hard not to get down in the dumps. I go back to work tomorrow and I am looking forward to the distraction.

Well in the hospital they pump you full of Water. That could be one reason. Dont stress up just yet your body is healing. You just had major surgery and put a lot of stress on your body. Give it time to heal and stay on track with your diet.

What are the stats on your Protein shakes?

Usually ensure is given to fatten people up.

Hey, sorry you're going through this disappointment. It can't be easy, especially with the expectations we place on ourselves before and after surgery.

I'm a newbie myself so all I can say is "Keep your head up", change will come. It will.

To sum it all up Relax dont take it the wrong way you might be filled to the brim with gas or like tapsnap said you might be filled with Water retention.Trust me itll come off and dont get worried too quick because you will stall again its normal to stall just have faith enjoy your new life dont over stress yourself about it itll come off eventually it has no choice. ALSO when your not losing pounds you might be just losing inches so verify that too

I came home from the hospital 10 lbs heavier than when I went in.. YIKES!!! It took a week, but it and more began coming off. Try to get more Fluid in, water will help flush your system. It will happen.

How are you feeling otherwise?

Just think that your body is smart enough to hang on to Fluid and nutrients for metabolism and repair. Keep doing what you are doing and don't worry! This is not a drive-thru, it's a long term thing.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
