Adventures in shapers

BAHAHAHA!!!!! The first time my husband attempted to take off my bra for our "first time" was like some kind of pre-pubescent boy's nightmare of elbows and grunting and knocking me in head....and he was 40 years old at the time!! I'm still somewhat stunned I actually had sex with him after that. I adore my guy' date=' but he is not the smoothest operator around. If he tried to take a shaper off my body, he might choke me to death. :P[/quote']

OMG this had me laughing!!!

Oh that hubby story made me laugh so hard. good thing my industrial strength "body shaper" has the potty opener. actually it is post plastics compression gaments. the bra is actually a matador jacket and the bottoms come all they way up under the boobs. Where they overlap... I swear my rib .bones are compressed. My first shower post op it took 2 nurses forever to get it back on- i was swollen, there were drains etc. Those two nurses were sweating by the time they were done.

I didnt wear heavy duty shapers prior though because of the discomfort. I tended to wear lighter control tanks. key is always to take them on and off down the body, not over your head.

NOW she tells us! This is cool, how could we not know this? Perhaps it's because we aren't victorian ladies.

On my FB, i just posted a link from buzzfeed that said 21 signs that being ladylike is not your forte. Maybe that's why I didn't know about stepping into control garments either.

Is it weird is it that I almost never wore shapers before?? I guess I just figured that I was already so big that a shaper wasn't going to make much of a difference. Did anybody else start with the shapers after some weight loss, rather than before?

At the weight I am now, roughly halfway to my tentative goal, I am much more open to the idea of wearing them. At least I thought I was, so that's why I started buying them. I just bought a size 14 dress that is still a bit too snug, but the blow up doll shaper might make the difference. :P I'm going to check out the tank top thingies, too.

I'd never thought of it, but it wasn't until I lost some weight that I started to wear them a while ago. I don't know, it's not like I let myself go when I'm putting on weight, but I....despair perhaps. I think nothing will help, I'm just going to look like crap. Isn't that such a defeatist attitude??

If i could sleep in my Spanx, i would!!! Lol. One of the questions i asked at surgeon at my first appt with him was "when can i wear my spanx again?"... :D

It is a mission getting in and out of them and I live by myself, but they make a world of difference for me when wearing dresses.

I was just going to post about bodyshapers; I have a lower belly flab issue' date=' VERY lower belly, and I have yet to find the shaper that gets rid of the panni. I'm not expecting for fabric to give me a board flat stomach but at least it should be able to keep my gut skin from the worst case of front-butt! Even with a shaper I have to keep my pants loose and my shirt hems long to keep people from staring. :( So my question is, does anyone know of some serious nuclear strength Shapewear for the lower gut/panni? I've even looked on post-partum online stores.[/quote']

I prefer the WYOB (Wear Your Own Bra) Flexees Romper by Maidenform. It fastens between the legs like a onesie so using the restroom is easier. I bought mine at Kohls when they are buy one get one 50% off. They do this often. I like Kohls cause you can try it on. I was surprised that I could go down a size (most effective for holding the panni up).

I used to have a very low hanging panni and this one was the most effective for keeping it up above my pubic bone.

Hope this is helpful.

Kristie, my bulgy pubis is my constant embarrassment, I'm about ready to enlist a 19th century style corset if it will work. The Flexees you showed is great, but for me with my thighs, I would have prominent and unsightly flesh-poofing, out of the leg holes. I need something that goes all the way down the thigh, with serious lower gut hoisting v_v

Heeeey, this is relevant to my recent frustration.

Can any of you recommend knee to boob Shapewear for tall people?

Globetrotter, this is the one I bought that made me feel like a blow up doll. I don't have the panni issue, but I also wanted one that went down my legs. I can tell you it definitely sucked me in all over!

When I was a 3x, no way would I wear a shaper. I was probably xl or 1x before I started wearing them.

When I was a 3X there was no way I would even attempt to get in a shaper, let along try to get out of if. Can you imagine the sweat, the heavy breathing, sitting on the edge of the bed to catch your breath, then try it again! Trying to push in the fat and to suck in the gut which does no good either.

After I lost my weight, oh yeah I started wearing very tight shapers garments and I loved them. I needed something for that hanging stomach. I guess I got so use to them, I was comfortable transferring to a compression garment after my LBL. I might be the only person to say this, but I love my compression garment. LOL!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
