Best surgeon in Mexico for a reasonable price? Ignore my previous post, i hit post too early

Recommended Posts

I am going through Mexico Bariatric Center, with Dr. alejandro lopez. The package includes the surgery, all work up costs like labwork, EKG, anesthesia, 2 nights in the hosptal (Hospital MI Doctor) and 3 nights total at the TJ Marriott. One night at the hotel is before the surgery when you fly in (they pick you up from San Diego airport, I think all the TJ package deals do it this way) and 2 nights at the Marriott after you are discharged from the hospital. I got the deal at $4750, it includes everything but airfare. He is an experienced bariatric surgeon with 3,000 sleeves, zero deaths, zero leaks. He teaches some of the other bariatric surgeons now, despite being young.

You need to ask for the special, otherwise the package price is a little more. Still worth it though. Christy is my coordinator and she has been amazing. I have asked her hundreds of questions I think and she always gets back to me quickly, is accessible by cell phone. And I spoke to Dr. Lopez on the phone too already. Dr. Lopez used to be with A Lighter Me but now is at MBC.

I will have my surgery in two weeks on November 1st through Mexico Bariatric Center ( my coordinator is Christy, love her! She lives here in California and is awesome).

My surgeon is Dr. louisianna Valenzuela

@ Mi Doctor Hospital

Staying at the Marriott Hotel.

Total price: $4500

Plus $200 extra because my husband will be staying at the Marrioit while I'm at the hospital.

The driver meets us at the border, takes us to Marriott first night. Surgery in the morning, 2 nights at Hospital (which, unlike Jerusalim hospital/ strip mall is a dedicated Bariatrics full service Hospital) then I stay at the hotel for another two nights. Driver takes us through the fast track/ medical lane back to border. Included in price is driver, hotel, hospital, surgery, broth, Water juice etc, all pre and post op testing, labs, meds, antibiotics. Shuttle for my husband back and forth from hospital to hotel. Super excited! Starting my 14 day pre op diet tomorrow. Let me know if you want contact info for Christy/ Mexico Bariatric Center. Good luck in your Quest.< /p>

I had my surgery thru Mexico Bariatric Center, everything the same as described by ITALIAN CURVES except I chose dr. Ponce de leon. I met Dr. Valenzuela while I was there and I've heard nothing but good things about her. I liked Dr. Ponce though because he is much more experienced, and I wanted someone who would keep me under anesthesia for the least amount of time, and that could handle anything that came up. They found a hiatal hernia during surgery that they repaired also, at no extra charge. The experience was excellent, and I have recovered well and am very happy with my choice.

Sounds like he might have to go the Jerusalem "hospital" with Dr Almanza route...

Seriously? You've been around the Mexico forum to know that Garcia, Lopez, Illian, Cabrera, Kelly, Valenzuela, etc are all around 4,200-4,700 and none of them practice at Jerusalem.

If you want the ultimate Medical Tourist experience go with Dr. Illan's team. They use florence Hospital- no strip mall.- excellent nurses. He has a Facebook support group- go to Baja Bariatrics to join. This group is very active and will answer all of your questions and cheer you on.

My SD was 10/10/13.

I'm with Dr Ortiz at OCC in TJ November 12th and his credentials speak for themselves. He has even taught bariatrics at Yale part time haha. I find that impressive anyway.

It said in my contract I'm not allowed to discuss prices an so I won't but you should check him out, his coordinators as super helpful and patient with all your questions and they aren't pushy salesmen types either. I asked lots of questions before setting a date and they never harassed or spammed my email with ploys to get me to sign up. Carolyn is awesome. Also my dad is coming with me and he gets to stay at the Marriott while I'm in the hospital free of charge (it's included in the package). All around I'd recommend him.

Love hearing all the positives about these Mexico Bariatrics experiences!

I feel sorry for people who will forgoe having this surgery in Mexico because of pre conceived notions based on fear or being closed minded.

THE MIND, IS LIKE A PARACHUTE....

IT ONLY FUNCTIONS WHEN IT'S OPEN!

13 days Til I drive to Mexico and change my life forever! Woo hoo!

There are many qualified surgeons with prices ranging from 4500-10000. There are some surgeons who's qualification and quality are debatable.

I chose Dr. Aceves. My experience/care was as great an experience as a surgery can be.

Good luck finding the surgeon that best suits yours and your bfs needs.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
