Do exactly as they say and you'll stay healthy and become the best you ever! Enjoy the Jello....broth....tea....and popsicles. Lol soon you'll be back to food but you'll never eat the same again. Congratulations!

I'm with Dr Ortiz at OCC in TJ November 12th and his credentials speak for themselves. He has even taught bariatrics at Yale part time haha. I find that impressive anyway. It said in my contract I'm not allowed to discuss prices an so I won't but you should check him out' date=' his coordinators as super helpful and patient with all your questions and they aren't pushy salesmen types either. I asked lots of questions before setting a date and they never harassed or spammed my email with ploys to get me to sign up. Carolyn is awesome. Also my dad is coming with me and he gets to stay at the Marriott while I'm in the hospital free of charge (it's included in the package). All around I'd recommend him.[/quote']

Agreed OCC is the best. I had my surgery 10/21 and they handle everything; transportation in & out of Mexico and to & from the hospital, all hotel reservations, and meals at your hotel. The doctors and facilities are top notch (even include direct contact information for the doctors). I had concerns about going to TJ for surgery but the parts that you are in felt like it could have been another suburb in LA and you really are escorted through the whole process. During your stay your driver will meet you by the front door of the Marriott and stays with you until he hands you off at the OCC reception desk. The hotel was very nice and the staff is very helpful.

I am having my surgery on Dec 6th by Almanza. I have heard nothing but good things about his surgeries... also I know 4 people who have used him personally and all are doing great. My surgery is $4199. Everything included except airfare.... if you would like to talk to me PM me and I will give you more info.... my coordinator is Reyna and she is awesome. They have already done everything for my leave for work and all. Very highly recommended around my area.

I think if you do you're research you will find there are 4 or 5 excellent surgeons we would recommend in MX. Not there aren't more, but there are a good top five being highly recommended here.

Laura- Dr Armanza's office actually just called me telling me what they offer. Is that not a good route? I didn't get a good vibe when you put the hospital in parenthesis. Please explain. :)

I am just out from Dr Alvarez with Endobariatric. Go to his you tubes they're are very informative. He is awesome, even helps people with problems he didn't do! Cost 8,700. I am thrilled with the guy and staff. Go to endobariatric.com. There is a thread on him too if you check.. Good luck!!

A couple of years ago I started researching VSG in Mexico & I called Dr. Almanza's coordinator, started asking questions, then felt a little strange about the conversations & also reading online that his "hospital" is in a strip mall. I furthermore felt strange when the coordinator called ME trying to arrange a surgery date! so anyway, I'm not saying he isnt a great doctor, Im just paying more money & using Dr Alvarez. His website is very informative, his coordinator is very helpful but not pushy. He was also listed in Newsweek magazine as a top bariatric surgeon. His expertise is worth spending a little more on, in my opinion.

I was sleeved on Sept 3rd and can only go by my personal experience and must say that I am so thankful to have chosen Dr Alvarez and his team. Being an RN for the past 26 years I researched surgeons in both the US and Mexico for almost 2 years before finally settling with Dr Alvarez in Piedras Negras MX.

Dr Alvaraz will be with you every step of the way and will never let the ball drop if you have complications. From the hospital, the hospital staff, Dr Alvarez's support staff, and his surgery team, Dr Salinas, Dr Rosales and Dr Garza you will be treated like family and taken care of from your first inquiry, through your hospital stay, discharge and beyond. Everything is taken care of so even if you come alone you will never be alone. Dr Alvarez and his team will stop in several times per day to check on you and they have patient advocates who speaks perfect English which are on the floor checking on you throughout each shift.

While this location was much farther from my home and cost was more then several other surgeons in MX I am so happy and thankful to have chosen and gone with this great team. If anyone has any specific questions please feel free to send me a pm.

I could not agree more! Dr. Alvarez is the best. I was sleeved Sept 27. 2013. I'm down 60 pounds and I feel great. I don't feel like I've had surgery. I'm not obsessing over food. I'm not worried about what I'm eating next or the next Monday to come to start a new diet. Just wished I would have done it sooner!

S Barbie, are you losing any hair yet? I am doing fantastic and so very happy, I feel so good. I agree, on the Monday what is my diet today. At 60 lbs I am just wondering when you noticed your hair thinning..and were there any bald spots?

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
