Does anyone know the reason why I can't eat fresh fruits and veggies for the 6 months! I had 2 weeks of liquids' date=' 4 weeks of puréed and then up to 6 months on soft fork tender foods with no fresh fruits no fresh veggies no steak or pork chops!! My guide book does not give me the reason for this....anyone know why!!!! Yes I can ask my nut but most people on here prob know the reason :):) thx Kim[/quote']

I just ate two cubes of cantaloupe and two cubes of pineapple tonight and I am sitting here in agony tonight - 3 hours and 15 minutes later. Owwwwwww! It hurts!!!

Basically, raw produce, with all of its Fiber and peels and strings and everything that makes crunchy/tasty/textural, can also be too much for a sad little sleeve trying its best to act like a full size tummy. Everyone's healing rate and tolerance level is different, but as Wags noted above, when you over do it, it hurts. The nuts all seem to have different opinions, too. I can get down cooked fruit and veg (no peels) and fresh salsa. My dr says fresh salad in December (4 month mark).

I miss fresh fruit and veggies!! My program says 4 months out we can have fresh veggies and lettuce. I'm awaiting December. That's when I'll be 4 months out.

In our nutrition class we were told it was to hard to digest for the first few months. The only fresh fruit we were allowed is watermelon and only a few small pieces, she said that watermelon is easily digested. Since its mostly Water.

I am allowed to eat fruit and veg it it is very soft. BUT I have to eat my Protein first! Consequently I get very little in. I think I am doing well to get one green bean in. I am allowed grated carrot. I have tried coleslaw but my sleeve hates it! Makes me feel nauseated. I can eat about 40g of fillet steak, I cut it very small and chew it well. No problems. 40grams is 1.3 ozs.

The reason the Drs and nuts can be wary of us having some of these things is that they can turn into little fibrous balls like hair balls and cause all sorts of problems. I think!

I am 10 weeks out and have lost 13 kg, which is just over 28 lbs. so 2 lbs a week consistently. I have never lost so consistently before in half a century of dieting.

I think it is all up to your Dr and his nutritionist. My Dr advanced me to soft foods at 3 weeks. I am 8 weeks out and I need the roughage, so I have my yogurt and frozen bluberries. 6 oz of greek yogurt 1/4 c bluberries. Its filling and last a long time. I find yogurt is one of those slider foods for me so it must be the blueberries that are filling. I was having a horrible time with Constipation but with the fruits and vegies I am much improved. I can not imagine no fruit for 4 months.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
