What foods can you simply not have anymore?

Recommended Posts

I haven't found any food that I can't tolerate at 10 months post-op. There are some who said they couldn't eat bread or have become lactose intolerant. I guess I'm lucky that I can eat anything without problems.

I can't have much red meat like steak, hamburger and Peanut Butter makes me nauseous. I stay away from bread and a very small amount of carbs meals because it makes me feel heavy and bloated. But I can eat a little bit of just about anything. After a year and a half with the lapband where I couldn't even eat scrambled eggs without getting sick, it is truly heaven.

Carbonated beverages are a big "no no". It isn't a food but a lot of peoplel drank them before surgery.

Fries, I have puked all 3 times I have tried. I finally gave up. I tried them fried, air baked, and baked in my oven at home. I do ok with hash brown patties as long as they are baked. I buy the frozen ones like McDonalds has, for a rare treat. I also do fine with mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, and love potatoes cooked in the crock pot, or just quartered, coated with olive oil and seasonings. I mean I eat like 1/4 of a small potato, or about 2 bites lol. It's something about French fries that just make me sick.

I can have any food I want to at this point- I have no food issues after surgery. However, I choose not to drink any carbonated beverages or alcoholic beverages, and I choose not to eat gluten which eliminates a bunch of the "naughty" foods like bread, Pasta, Cookies, cake, etc., and I also choose not to eat dairy products. I am physically able to eat them, and I definitely enjoy eating them, but I have decided to follow a Paleo diet for health reasons, and it is working really well for me.

Awesome this is great to hear. It's sound like post VSG your cravings for the bad stuff have gone away, this is great stuff. Congrats! Also we seem to have started this journey at similar weights, how much did you lose the 1st month?

The cravings are still there, but not nearly as bad as they used to be. Occasionally I indulge, but it is much easier to control my diet because I am rarely hungry. I just focus on getting in my Protein and Water every day.

I lost 20 pounds the first month after surgery.

I loved a nice cold glass of milk pre-op, now I can drink it but it's not as refreshing, almost tastes warm to me even right out of the fridge, just not the same. Also, hard boiled eggs sit in my sleeve & make me feel yuck but I eat scrambled eggs almost everyday for Breakfast. It's weird how that happens post op!

I can't have fast food anymore. It's like my stomach knows I shouldn't have it and sort of shuts down. A couple times I was desperate for some Protein so I got a burger from McDonalds, and a couple bites in I couldn't stomach it. (ha!) It made me feel just overall gross, and gave me a heachache.

Yellow cheese. I can only do white now.

Other than that, the only thing would be generally nothing sounds good.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
