Hi!

I was sleeved on 10/1, and I'm completely new here!

I was banded in 2005 in St. Louis. Banding wasn't my initial thought, but the RNY scared me a lot, so my doctor talked me into the band. While I did lose some weight initially (and then it helped keep the weight stable) it was not a good fit at all for many reasons both personal and physical. Mainly, though physically, the band ended up causing me a lot of pain in the port site. When I moved to Oregon in 2011, my now-husband insisted that I see someone about this issue that I'd been just "dealing" with for several years. I saw the wonderful doctors at OHSU and while they could find nothing inherently wrong with the band (no slipping, not too tight) we tried to work with it for a while but the pain was still there and the weight loss was still minimal. So, we removed the band in Feb '13 with an eye to do a sleeve revision. My doctor prefers to let the site heal up before doing a sleeve. I don't feel this is a bad choice, but I did gain some weight back in between the band removal and the sleeve, alas.

Anyway, I just wanted to check in and say hi! I'm looking forward to getting down some pounds with you all.

I went in for my 2 week check up today. I had been dreading going. I know I lost some weight, my ankles are no longer hideously swollen for example, but I thought (and kept thinking) "Oh god, I haven't lost enough, I haven't lost a lot what am I doing wrong!"

Instead, I find out I'm down 20 pounds since 10/1

YAY! :D

Good for you! Excellent job!

Checking for a total loss of 32 pounds since 10/1.

Feeling good especially because I still keep thinking I'm not losing weight. My lowest weight recently was around 316, so I'm hoping I'll start seeing changes in myself soon.

Oct 1st here too - my story is similar to yours, I was banded in 2011 and didn't lose much at all and then started having issues with reflux so I decided to convert either to bypass or the sleeve. Didn't know for a long time which one I wanted but I am glad I decided to go with the sleeve, so far I have lost 41lbs, more than I ever did with the band. How is your weight loss going thus far?

I was sleeved on oct 23. Down about 35 pounds. I am starting to fee hunger now and it scares me. Ia this normal after 3 months of not being hungry?

I think it is normal to start getting some hunger back, I have days where I feel hungry to but not as much as before the surgery. But still be conscious of what you are eating. I try to make healthy choices, but remember you can only eat but so much, my signal for being full is getting pain in the stomach as I swallow. then I know I have eaten enough.

I feel hungry sometimes, and when I do, I always think first of eating something I shouldn't. I have to remind myself often that I can eat something good for me, and feel satisfied due to the tiny sleeve I now have. It's so hard to break the habit of being a "fat person". I'm gradually getting used to being able to have a Protein Drink or something else that's ok to eat, and feeling full. I guess that's from all the times I tried to diet before, when I would feel deprived and end up pigging out. And that is exactly why I got sleeved!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
