Liquid protein -YUKKKKK!

Recommended Posts

Hello all! I was sleeved on 10-9-13. Overall, I have been doing pretty good (knock on wood). nausea is very little, gas pains are nearly gone, and tolerating the liquids well, however; The Liquid Protein "shots" (whey protein) make me nearly puke! I just can't do another one. I am really worried about my Protein I take. I have tried to dilute it, mix it in my tea's, broth, flavored water etc and it just make me wanna puke. Any suggestions of a "tolerable" liq protein?

Hang in there. I like the Premier Protein ready to drink shakes. They aren't thick and chalky or gritty. I even drink them post op to make sure I get my Protein in.

And they are about $25 a case at Costco!

The liquid Protein shots got me the closest I have come to throwing up since I had my surgery. A large box (minus one) sits in my pantry. They taunt me in there. Still causes me to shudder. I really like the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury unflavored Protein powder. It mixes well into Soups, chili, puddings. I have even been known to mix it with a half cup of Carb Smart ice cream. Just let the ice cream melt just a bit and stir it all together. Turns a treat into a Protein packed snack with low carbs. By the way, the Breyers low carb ice cream tastes very, very, good! I was blown away! Sometimes I use it as a base for a smoothie, thow in a handful of frozen banana slices, strawberries, no sugar added cherries, MMMM going to make some of those tomorrow!!!

There are A LOT of Protein options. Google and check them out. Most allow you to buy sample packs. I use (and like) Unjury.< /p>

Are you on clears or full liquids? For clear Proteins, I would recommend Syntrax Nectar flavors. You can get sample packets, just google Syntrax nectar sample pack. For full Protein, I like the Syntrax Matrix and Unjury brands. If you absolutely have to have ready to drink instead of Protein Powder, the Premier Protein chocolate shakes are good. I know a lot of people really love the EAS Carb Control shakes as well, but I haven't tried them myself.

I found Unjury vanilla to be amazing. i am still having a cup a day 3 months out because it is my favorite protien source and I cannot eat much in the morning. i got a sample from my doctor and perhaps yours has some too. you can add flavorings to it. there are calorie free chocolate syrups out there.

good luck

Yeah I am still on Clear Liquids. Thanks for the info though, that has helped me greatly!

I use EAS AdvantEDGE carb control ready to drink. I love the chocolate fudge. Its the consistency of chocolate milk and goes down pretty easy. It only has 17gm of Protein per shake though. I'm eating regular food now so I only do 2 to 3 shakes a day depending on how I eat. 24 shakes is 28.00 at Sams.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
