Hello All....SabrinaMarie I too am kinda in the dark about the after surgery process. I don't have a NUT or any after surgery instructions for after the first 4 weeks. I am doing the bouncing around on the scale 1 pound or 2 and have not lost anything for awhile. My question to everyone is: Do you include the calories from your Protein Shakes into your daily calories and how many calories should I be having each day? My Protein shakes are about 280 calories, for 60 gr protein. I have been eating lots of chicken breast and cooked veg's. Yogurt, and chicken soup.I kinda feel afraid to eat other foods. Because I think I won't lose weight if I do...I walk just about every day and going to the gym starting Mon. Congrat's to everybody on doing so well.

Hi, I'm 3wks out and at my 2nd postop which was yesterday, my doc told me that I need to stop the Protein Drinks since I was gettin at least 40g from foods. Also, as Atl said, my doc also includes shakes as part of the 64oz of Fluid daily and yes those count towards caloric intake. Gl and hope things fall into place for u. God bless.

Different doctors set different guidelines for what you can eat and how you progress. Mine is pretty strict about low carb. I'm linking to his patient portal that has the progression (it's frustrating, because they posted the three week thing for bypass, not sleeve!).

I hope that helps. My nutritionist thinks I should be getting 600-800 calories daily now.

Seems like I wake up most nights around 2am and am hungry. Is this happening to other folks? What are you doing about it? It makes sense that I would be physically hungry, if I'm having 2 oz of soft food around 6pm, but I don't really want to "wake up" and have more food. But then I think, well, I *am* awake! Part of its typical "woke up in the middle of the night and can't get back to sleep, " but it seems even harder with these hunger pangs.

Not a huge problem... Just every thing seems more ponderable when it's 2am and you can't sleep! :)

Question for everyone:
Does anyone want the grape Protein Shots I bought? Here are the pics of them. There are 10 completely new ones... I tried one and just wasn't into the flavor of it and I have my sister one also. I am selling it for about $25 but am willing to negotiate! I paid $40 for 12 of them. I can ship it to you!

Hi everyone, I'm about six weeks out from surgery and have hit a second stall. So discouraging. Have any of you hand this problem six weeks out and what did you do to get restarted? I thought about just going on a Protein Shake fast day.

I had a week or so where I didn't lose any weight but it's starting To come off now finally. I definitely count the calories from protein shakes as part of my over all calories which I have felt drinking slowed down my weight loss by a ton. So at this point I'm trying to eat mostly tuna no and foods with more protein because I'm just not down with the shakes anymore. This girl on here told me she drinks about half of an isolate drink a day just to help her hair so think I might start doing that. But over all the shakes just have way too many calories for me. Good job starting the gym soon! I hope everything works out for you.

For those you without a NUT if you search the web I found some great info on the boston Brigham and Women Hospital website. Granted it's a guide and finding your Nut would be more ideal but if that's not an option check this link out... http://www.brighamandwomens.org/Departments_and_Services/surgery/services/generalsurg/WeightLossSurgery/PostOpSleeveGastrectomyDiet.pdf

Wombat:

I have not had the 2 AM issue, but twice I could not go to sleep because my stomach felt so hollow. What I have done is drink 3 oz of skim milk which filled me up and provided more Protein. It seems like 6 pm is too early to stop eating. Can you eat something like cottage cheese or cheese or something later to hold you overnight?

The milk sounds like a great idea. I should mention, I go to bed around 9, and worry about heartburn if I eat too late.

I found a link to Boston's Brigham & Women Hospital gastric dietary post plan...I thought for those without A NUT it would be helpful.

I sometimes I get hunger late at night but I go back to sleep.., I Figure a little hunger pains won't hurt me and the hurt burn would be worse than the hunger pains

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
