    • I look for any menu item with some sort of lean protein and plan to eat only the protein (for example, I only eat the turkey and leave the bun if I get a turkey burger).

    • I ask the server if I can have some grilled chicken and steamed vegetables.

    • I order whatever looks good and plan to just eat a couple of bites. You might as well take advantage of the restaurant’s good cooking!

    • I bring my own food so I can enjoy spending time with everyone else while they eat the restaurant’s food.

    • I don’t go to restaurants anymore. There’s nothing I can eat with my weight loss surgery.

I'm not quite 4 weeks post op. I've been caught out and about and no where near home without a Protein shake a couple of times. Once I went to Chic filet and ordered one chicken strip, a small order of fries and a Water. It took me all afternoon to eat the entire chicken strip and about 5-6 fries. I just nibbled and ate super slow.

Another time we were at my FAVORITE Japanese place, so I ordered a sushi roll with super light rice, then I picked most of the rice off and ate 2 1/2 of the 6 pieces that they cut it up into. I was a happy girl because I LOVE fresh sushi!

....

To me the worst part of eating out is not finding things to eat, but is in convincing the waitress that everything was fine with my meal when I only eat a couple bites of it....lol.

....

If you ask for a to go box at the time you place your food order you cue the waitress in to the fact that you won't be eating much, so they usually won't try to verify that everything was OK.

I usually don't have a strategy but I mostly go for the Protein and not something creamy like Pasta dishes. I was never really into pasta. I love Red Lobster and always get the "ulitmate feast" which is packed full of protein and so filling.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
