I had my surgery last Thursday and so far I haven't had any real problems. I have my first post op doctor's visit on Nov 8th.

At first my hunger was in check. I drank my 27 mg Protein shakes three times a day, organic chicken broth, sugar free Jello and lots of Water. I also take Calcium crushed up in my shake, chewable multi Vitamin and Vitamin D. For the pain I was taking torodol and liquid Tylenol with codeine. I've since stopped taking both because the pain is manageable.

Ok, well now it's day 8 and I just feel plain yucky. I'm sick of my shakes and broth. I really don't like Jello but I made myself eat it anyway. Yesterday I bought sugar free ice pops. I'm dreading this coming week. I am so so hungry and I feel weak. I'm going crazy over here. I keep craving sour dough pretzels. I just wish I could sleep until Nov 8th.

Each doctor has their own regimen they want us to follow and for most of us it's similar to yours. It's difficult I know, but it will get easier.

I was at my wits end too, but it's really important to stick with what your doctor tells you. There is a reason for it during the healing process. I remember dreaming about cottage cheese....of all things! I craved it so badly, you would have thought it was a T-bone steak with a loaded baked potato!

You'll get through this.... It sucks (no better way to put it), but soon enough it will be behind you, and you'll be on your way.

Hi Nancy, it sounds like you are doing well. Don't forget pain medicine effects us in all kinds of ways and you are just coming off eight days of that. Don't forget to Celebrate the big accomplishment of getting through this thing -- you are on your way! I am pre-op four more days and I know what you mean about wanting to go to sleep and wake up. May 1st would be nice -- six months out, a good chunk off, in sync with my body and my band.........

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
