Advise needed.. Starting over

Recommended Posts

Had lapband surgery in June . Pre and post lost 50 pounds . But now my port has become disconnected and have never had any "restriction". I have gained back 10 pounds and am having revision surgery on thur and am trying to look at this as a fresh start to get regimented and follow all rules.

Feeling like a failure and disappointed that I am have complication so early . I guess I'm just feeling sorry for myself .. But I have to succeed with this !! I know I can do it .. But so easy to fall back into old habits .

Any advise would be great .. Thanks !!

Hey Hope,

I understand where you are coming from. Set backs are never fun, but that is all that this is. It's a set back not a failure on your part at all!

Try to use this time as another tool. You know what all the rules are, and you know how the band should work, now while you are waiting to get all the parts installed in working order, is a good time to keep up and define your band practice!

Don't allow yourself to fall back into the old habits! As you said that is the easy route and you have so far taken the high road with all it's trials and tribulations. Don't lower your standards or expectations now. Keep your goals in sight my friend. One step at a time, one mile stone at a time. Go back to the band basics, and reboot.

You can and you will make this work for you!!! I have faith in you!

IMHO, you'll never be "finished" so I wouldn't worry about success or failure. You've lost some. Gained some. Had a complication. Made a tweak. Lost some more. Stayed focused. Kept on it. No biggie...

Where's the failure??

It's really not about some final judgement--it's about ongoing action. You're in control some of the time. Out of control some of the time. Up. Down. You're human, and it's not a big deal... Goal weight is just a number you made up anyway. It's not real. And there is no race, no finish line, no boos, and no ticker tape parade.

Being fat or thin isn't who you are, it's what you're doing. So keep doing what you're doing and then do it more. It's all good!

Best wishes to you -- you are on your way. Once your band is working well for you it's all going to be so much easier!

Are you really starting over? I don't think so! The tool is just an ongoing assist on this road of healthy living. The disconnection is just a pothole that needs to be fixed and it slowed you down a bit. We all are learning what it takes to drive down this road. Your doctor is updating his skills, the manufacturer is finding what they can do to improve product, and you (the recipient) will review your past actions to be sure you travel in the right direction. Your path ahead is bright and we wish you safe travel.

Good luck with your surgery. This is never over. Even after you lose all your weight it is just as hard to maintain as to lose. Any mistakes at your maintenance and you are right back to gaining. Just look at it as they found the problem and now you can control the outcome.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
