Scared and need advice

Recommended Posts

Ok so tonight I had a 3 oz piece of flounder, 1/4 cup of mashed potatoes and 1/4 cup of Mac and cheese (all blended in my food processor) and I thought it was an appropriate amount of food. I took my time and didn't drink with my meal. It's been about 20 minutes or more since I finished and I am now incredibly uncomfortable, feel super full! I am 3 weeks postop. Was this just too much and could I have hurt my surgery? I am terrified of this feeling. I have been doing so well up until tonight and I'm just worried. Any help is appreciated!

What is your post-op diet at the 3 week mark? That sounds pretty hefty for three weeks, but I'm basing that on what my post-op diet was. My first reaction is that the food was too heavy, and too dry.

I don't think you hurt anything, just a bit overfilled. As you are eating you really need to pay attention to your body's signals (which was hard for me when I was used to inhaling my food). The goal with the band is to eat until you are satisfied and not stuffed. It's trial and error, and at first it was a lot of error for me!

My diet is blended or puréed door right now. I get to start solids next week. I think the Pasta was what threw me over the edge. It was too heavy and I think I've learned a valuable lesson. I was so scared to feel that full. I am going to chalk this up as a learning experience and keep moving forward. I've lost 23lbs in 3 weeks since being banded. I know there will be ups and downs and I'm so thankful I have this forum to share my trials with. You are all so wonderful!

It is so strange the wide array of pre and post op diets there are. I am exactly 3 weeks post op today and I am on a ground diet. 3 oz of Protein have to be consumed before I can eat a 1/2 cup of cooked veggies. I can have yogurt and Protein Drinks to make up for any protein meals that I can't consume. My surgeon will not so a full until 8 weeks after surgery.

I am a few days shy of two weeks post op and am on soft/mushies and cleared to start regular foods.

Those two carbs mashed potatoes and Pasta are going to make you feel way full. I would go with the meat and a vegetable but that is just my suggestion. I never tried pasta for about a year post op

I am on puréed foods and my plan suggests keeping away from starchy carbs . I am so afraid of feeling sick or stuck I might be being too careful. I have added flavorless Protein powder to Soups and oatmeal and that is working well for me as we'll. I've not been hungry and I feel I can eat more than I do but my nutritionist told me that just because I can doesn't mean I should. This is the reason I've gained weight to begin with I figure. Like I can eat ice cream today but I shouldn't if I want my weight loss to be most successful.

My goal is to be a model patient and stay respectful and slightly fearful of the band but not experience it's wrath!

Thank you all for your replies. I have sworn off Pasta, blended or not! I had an uncomfortable evening that night and since then have stuck to thin liquids and lean Protein and am much better! Down another 2 lbs also!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
