Recommended Posts

:) I am very sorry not to have gotten info out Dec 20, 2011. Today is Jan 29, 2012 and I had RNY Bypass in the USA as I WON MY APPEAL for BLUE CROSS in the USA. Had the surgery in RENO NV at Renoun med center. 5 star experience.

Was 247 at my heaviest and as of this AM, broke 200 and weighed in at 198!

I am having food sticking issues and cannot eat all the stuff on my diet plan.

I have a new treadmill and am on it daily

Knees feel great

I am now shopping for a plastic surgeon to nip and tuck in 50 more pound loss

I COULD NOT LOGG INTO THIS SIGHT and was FRUSTRATED as I got a new computer.

Hope all out there are doing well

2 of my friends went to OCC on JAN 24 and had the plication

Both loved it and said 5 star experience as well!!

My surgery was Dec 19, 2011 for the RNY from Western Bariatrics in RENO NV. They do the Plication but I was originally set for RNY so I stayed with it when my appeal was granted

January 24, 2012, my best good friend in AZ went with her Sister to OCC in Mexico. Both had the GASTRIC PLICATION. I transfered my $500 deposit to Cindy as I was able and I went forward with RNY Dec 19, 2011 in the States

BOTH report OCC was 5 star. GREAT Dr's, Care, Conditions, Follow up. The hotel was EXCEPTIONAL.

I think the OCC was rated well and is the best as reported

Is anyone able to provide and idea of what the pre-op diet is like and also and post op diet ?

I want to get on it and then book my flight last minute so that I can get it for cheaper (on a budget). Thank you !

I will email U but not sure if waiting to book a flight last minute is the best

Right now, fares are the lowest U will see for a time per all that is out on them

I am booking a flight in APRIL and the rates are really good

Not sure where U live, etc

Also not sure if U are going to OCC and what kind of surgery U are getting so all I can tell U is what I was told at OCC and my Local Dr that did my RNY

Both are centers of excellence for bariatrics and each have a different plan

It is also based On UR pro op weight

I went to Dr ortiz on Feb. 3. The facility was clean and the room was much better than any American hospital I have ever been to. I asked Dr. Ortiz about sutures coming undone, as that was also my worst fear. He said he has done 500 of these surgeries. In the first 100, 2 patients had sutures come undone. So, he changed the material he used to suture and from the last 400, he is unaware of any sutures coming undone. I am 7 days post op. I am happy with all of the care I received from OCC. Their follow up care via phone and email has been excellent.

The hotel you stay in a amazing and the staff there takes excellent care of you. chicken broth is free of charge for OCC patients.

I have lost 9.5 pounds this week and am feeling pretty good. Dr. Ortiz emphasises that this is a tool-a drastic and expensive tool, to lose weight. It is up to you to work to change your palate, your lifestyle and your choices. It is not the answer to your eating problems. It is only a helper. If you don't change what you eat, you will not improve your health. He was very convincing!

I do recommend that BEFORE the nurse administers medication via your IV, that you ask to speak to the doctro and get all of your questions answered. they assume you are ready to go and if you don't ask, they will medicate you and operate on you without you ever speaking with the doctor.

Go on YouTube. Search for plication surgery and find videos by Cody. She went alone and everything went well. She also gave weekly video blogs that really gave me alot on insight. GOOD Luck!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
