OMG October 2013 Post-ops

Recommended Posts

Most people know I have had bariatric surgery. I don't keep personal secrets well. I tend to blurt out the answers to anything I may possibly try to hide. I do also add on after I am asked "I basically eat raw-vegan/ paleo". This often gets me weird looks and I explain that I get inspiration to eat healthy from those groups, and I eat meat. I also add that I cannot physically eat bread, pastas or rice. I am very picky about the food that goes in my mouth, and I do allow the odd indulgent. But that is rare. I feel so supported about my decisions from my friends. So I basically, to eventually answer your question and am brutally honest with them lol. Not that I could hide it if I wanted to hehe

Raw-vegan/paleo is a great description! I've had to attend a couple of work/conference meetings lately. One I just brought my own lunch, the other the meeting planner insisted that she would order for me. I tried gluten-free and just didn't eat the gf bread. I think it would have been better if I brought my own lunch.

I also wanted to agree with you molly about this not being the easy way out. I feel although k have lost weight, that I am more unhealthy now that I was before surgery. I have had a lot of reactions to this surgery and am having to be literally deathly afraid of trying new things. I struggle daily with nutrition, fluids, "will this cause me anaphylaxis", and am I going to be in pain today. I am suffering from this surgery, so this is in no way an easy way out. I found out recently that I have become hypersensitive to foods and medicines since surgery. My surgeon states that I am uniquely reacting to the surgery. Besides the risks of anaphylaxis, I get acute pancreatitis too. Go figure. So easy, heck no, worth it, still pondering, DO I feel so much more confident and can tie my own shoe laces. Heck ya!! ~hugs ;)

You look so cute!

Thank you so much! I just bought that dress today from a store called "sirens". I is the first time I have ever worn something like that. It was a great experience. I wasn't going to shop there because the biggest size they had was a large, but I decided to see how far I had to go. I am so psyched about fitting it. I waited for this feeling for a long time, as we all have.

I love this group so much, especially the October group because everyone is so supportive here. I belonged to a couple Facebook groups and led t because they were not supportive. Everyone is so awesome, and Ai truly mean that ! <3

Autumn pumpkin,

Glad you have supportive people to help you through the hard times. You do look great. Such high cheekbones in your face. It is a nice thing when you suprisingly fit into a regular size. I felt that in February when I could wear a regular extra large sweater. Not a 1X, but just normal extra large.

Today I made a Memorial Day cookout for my family with a few twists to make it more WLS post-op friendly. It was my first time making a rhubarb crisp with Splenda instead of sugar. It was so yummy and no one noticed the switch.

It's been about a month since hitting Onederland and I finally feel like I won't be back in the 200s again. 193 this morning - no turning back now!

Hi all - just checking in.

RNY was 10/21/13. Started at 256 lbs and have lost 58 lbs.

I have 28 lbs to go until I hit my personal goal.

I have about 35 lbs to go until I hit the weight my surgeon said I should easily (or certainly) reach.

I feel like a failure. I've been sitting at 198lbs for almost 4 months now. I'd say 4 months qualifies as a full-on plateau! A stall of the highest order. Haha.

My greatest fear was that this would happen. Every day feels like the "old days" of hunger, dieting, refraining from wanting to binge (and often failing). I know the requirements inside out. I know I eat Protein first, I know i need to exercise, I know I need to stay hydrated and take my Vitamins. I'm doing all these things.

I see my surgeon for a weigh-in and blood tests in 2 weeks time.

I can eat anything. I do dump mildly on some things (my son had icecream cake for his birthday. I had a small sliver - mistake).

Will chat to surgeon but I feel like ive never had the surgery. And I feel so down about my weightloss stopping.

Anyway....still living my rny lifestyle. Will perservere. I've just never seen anyone report a 4 month stall. I think my weightloss is done - sadly.

I love reading all your progress posts guys! Very inspirational. The photos are amazing. Thanks to everyone who has shared. :-)

Rach. ♡

(((Rach))),

I hope your surgeon has good advice for you! Is there a psychologist or therapist with your clinic that you can see, too? Will you see the nutritionist soon? Is there a support group run by your clinic?

I was told that I'll lose for up to 18 months - we are still in month 8, so not even 1/2 way there. I haven't had a long stall, but I only lose 1-2 lbs per week, so my total loss since surgery is almost the same as yours 256-194. I'm hoping for the 18 month window of loss , too.

So I wanted to share some amazing non scale victories from today. So for our engagement anniversary, my hubby and I went kayaking. First victory, the instructor said I was quite small, and gave me a medium sized wet suit! Whoa!! I felt great!!

One lesson we had to do was capsize our boat and climb out of the Water into our boat in water that was over our head. Not only was I able to do this, I was able to do this with minimal effort!

I fit into the kayak, with lots of room.

I never have to worry about the weight capacity of a kayak ever again. I kayaked for 7 hours and Ai don't feel sore at all!!. Such an amazing day for victories. Also, I went swimming with my nephew last week, and he wanted to go down the big boy slide, he is 3. My brother and I told him that he was too little and even daddy is too big for the slide. He looks and my brother and states "you're right, daddy is huge!" A few minutes later, he looks and to me and says "can't auntie niki take me, she's not big". I love this child!!! Yay!!!

I think I would definitely benefit from seeing a psychologist who specialises in food addiction and bariatric patients, because in all honesty, I do eat too much.

Im ALWAYS hungry. I eat well. I eat healthy whole foods but I do eat alot. Ive always been very surprised at how much I can eat before feeling satisfied.

Isnt the aim of the surgery to eat less because you become full and feel satisfied after small amounts?

I can eat rice, steak, chicken, all veges. .anything ahd everything. Nothing gets stuck and I can eat a full meal. I cant overeat and binge like I used to prior to surgery (no desire to, why would I) buy I eat meals like any regular woman who hasnt had surgery.

Definitely going to speak to my surgeon about that. See him in a week..

Non-scale victories to keep me going. .

Ive gone from a size 20 to a 12 in tops and size 22 to size 14 in pants.

Ive gone from a size 11 shoe to size 10 (far more selection!).

I've been shopping in regular stores and no shop assistants look at me weird like "Lady, why do you even bother walking in here?"

Feeling like I fit in and don't stand out. I just love being part of the crowd.

Happy Days everyone.

So yesterday was awesome! I am finally able to wear mediums!! I am currently wearing size 14, but notice that my excess skin is preventing me from wearing smaller. Smaller gives me a muffin top!! Lol

I attached a picture of some new scrubs I tried on.

While at work yesterday, I bent over and stood up quickly, my large pants almost fell off!!

I am almost at 100 pounds lost post op! Only 4 pounds to go!

2 pounds away form being "overweight". It is sickening to be overweight still, but wearing mediums lol

But regardless of the what the scale says, I feel great!

Oh I also attached a photo of my size 14 skinny jeans! Almost no muffin top lol

Miss you all, we need some updates!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
