I also had the silastic ring. Because I am an a carb and sweet eater and a compulsive eater the MD felt this would prevent me from over eating and stretching the pouch out. You can't feel it. I'm 1 week out from surgery and today was advanced from full liquids to mushy pureed food.< /span>

From what I read it is supposed to prevent your pouch from stretching over the years.it is not adjustable and comes in different sizes. I've read that it has similar complications to the band however, such as erosion and several people who have had it 5-12 years now experience vomiting from even a sip of Water, have developed ulcers around their rings. Again this is just what I have read browsing the interweb. It is believed that weight loss may be greater with this than with bypass alone.

According to hopkinsmedicine.org 80-90% of gastric and duodenal ulcers are caused by H. Pylori bacteria. Other causes are NSAIDS, smoking, caffeine, alcohol, and physical stress. food doesn't seem to CAUSE ulcers but can aggravate existing ulcers.

By definition an ulcer is a break in the tissue, a sore, or a lesion and can be located anywhere in or outside of the body. Ulcers get their names from their location... gastric ulcer, peptic ulcer, duodenal ulcer, skin ulcer, etc. The type of ulcer you are referring to is totally different from the type that was mentioned.

Did you ever have any blockage or vomit slimy mucus? I found out it happens to lapband but it happened to me the other day. Since I hadn't really eaten anything but two sips of Protein Shake, I think it may have been from my vitamins...it scared me.

I was offered the ring but declined as it was an additional cost, and I would obsess about it. I have a thing about foreign objects in my body, which is why I originally didn't get lapband. Glad now I got bypass. We all have to do what we can live with.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
