New here, three weeks out

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, my name is Stephanie. I'm 22 years old and I had my surgery on 7/10/13. So I'm three weeks out. I'm so glad to have found this community and I'm excited to give and receive support and advice from future and past RNY patients.

It's been a little hard so far. My doctors have really strict food phases. I've seen a lot of people say they are two weeks out and are eating normal food already and I'm so jealous. The worst thing has been having to eat the same thing for two weeks. I'm on the soft foods diet so I am only allowed to eat mashed hard boiled eggs (which I hate), cottage cheese (which i hate) oatmeal (which I hate) cream of wheat, refried Beans, plain Greek yogurt ( which I also hate) and mashed potatoes. I'm halfway done with my second week of soft foods and just the thought of having to eat refried Beans or mashed potatoes ever again sickens me. If prefer not to eat at all then to eat mashed potatoes and refried beans. But it's almost over and then I can have salad and ground beef and actual food. ???? So excited.

Eek, I still shutter when I think about refried beans. But it's a necessary step, you do not want to move any faster, trust me. Jumping in to solid food was hard for me, it felt like a tun of bricks were sitting on my pouch, because I started too early.

Oh im more than happy to answer questions. It's been hard but not that bad. The worst thing about post op is having to eat the same thing all the time. For me the clear liquid and full liquid diet went by pretty fast. But my doctor won't let me have Protein shakes which I think is weird because it seems like EVERYONE else on this blog can have them. Anyway I'm down to eating maybe once a day because my soft foods list is so strict. There are only 6 things on it and 4 of them I wouldn't eat if you payed me like cottage cheese and mashed hard boiled eggs. ????Yuck! So all I have left are mashed potatoes and refried Beans. Which now just the idea of having to eat them just repulses me. But it's almost over. On Wednesday I can start eating salads and ground beef and fish. Mmm so excited! ????

I had surgery 7-10 too. Doing good but struggling to get past tuna. Just putting chicken in my mouth freaks me out and I get this overfilled pressure from one tiny bite. Maybe that's good. Keeps me from eating too much.

I'm not allowed to have any of that yet. It's kind of strange though because I go from liquids and soft foods where they stress no chunks to next week where I can have fish and vegetables and meat. I fell like I'm going on a hunger strike because I'd rather not eat than have to eat mashed potatoes again.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
