Does anyone know if there are specific questions the pyschologist asks in the eval for the gastic bypass surgery? Thanks!

I had 4 of them... I believe in all of them they wanted to know what I eat, what i do for exercise, what research I've done, how I got fat (I.e have you always been or did it happen after pregnancy.. Etc) have you ever purged, do you binge or hoard food. If I cook for myself or if some one else does. If I cook for a family. If my family (parents siblings) is also over weight. If I think obesity is learned or genetic. Who your support people are. If you know any one who's had the surgery. That's all I can think of off hand.

They are pretty basic and just want to make sure you know exactly what is going to happen and that you are mentally all set for it, doing it for the right reasons, ect.

I just had my psychological evaluation today. He asked me only like 6 or so questions that consisted of who my support system is, why I want the surgery, why I thought a psychological evaluation was necessary before this surgery (seems to be a great question to ask in my opinion), current health problems and any mental illness history or genetics. I then took the 567 question MMPI test (would love to know the legit reason for some of the odd questions) and the two behavioral tests dealing with anxiety and depression. It was a two hour visit but assuming he clears me, I won't need to go back. I don't have any history of depression not am I on any medications for my mental health so if that's the case for you it should be fairly pain free.

I had some invasive questions asked in mine. Like drug alcohol problems, if I ever was abused, if I see a counselor, those were the ones that stand out to me

They funny thing about the written test, there were a ton of questions. Allot of them the same question just worded differently. I was so worried that maybe my answers were different!!!

I had initial psych eval with doctor, then 2 tests consisting of about 700 questions. All behavioral, but it took 3 hours to complete... Ugh...

Wow, guys thanks so much. I just couldn't imagine what type of questions a pyschologist would ask about me having WLS? But I'm ready for whatever!

Thanks again all!

It is not only in regards to wls. The questions will be for example about you feeling sad and the answers you need to pick from are: all the time, sometimes, all the time, never... Other questions are: do you have something to look forward to, are you ready for lifestyle change etc. this test is supposed to reveal if you are ready for the mental challenges related to the wls. You always have 4 answers to pick from and need to mark it on the answer sheet.

The MMPI is designed to catch false positive and negatived hence, the many wuestiond.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
