2 months post-op - unhappy

Recommended Posts

I am 2 months post up.

I have lost only 18 pounds!!! I was at -20 but gained 2 lbs this past week, despite not changing any foods/portions. I thought I had been doing everything right.

18 in 8 weeks ??? Very discouraging !

I was told to realistically expect 2-4 pounds a week....2 pounds a week for a year is over 100 pounds! Keep your chin up and keep following your rules, we don't all get lucky and lose 8-10 pounds a week (I ave a friend that lost a pound a day for 6 months...granted, she was much larger but darn it!).

you'll get there, try not to fret.

I've had a few gains also. But I finally got to my goal weight. Just don't stop doing whatever they tell you to do.

Are you taking your Protein Shakes? ??, I've noticed that the more I eat, the more I lose, of course it has to be small meals but frequently, like yog for snack, and I always have a Protein Shake for Breakfast. I added a Protein shake as a snack (in between lunch and dinner) and I noticed I started losing a little more.

I loose nothing many weeks! I'm only 4 months post op and use Protein Drinks 3 times a day still. I average 600 calories s day, do its frustrating to keep stalling so early out.

Your metabolism thinks you are starving so it has slowed down thus no weight loss. You might consider increasing your calories which should boost the metabolism awake. I was doing what your were doing with my band and was informed I wasn't consuming enough so I jump between 600 to 1000, and always drink a Protein Shake or protein when I wake up. Surgeon told me that the metabolism slows down during your sleeping hours so it needs a boost when you wake up. Guess that is why you should always eat breakfast. In my case I drink it

Protein Shake is a good idea for breakfast. liquid Protein gets into your system faster, and the fact that it is liquid is good for hydration (good since most people haven't had anything to eat or drink in 9-11hrs). My husband is a body builder and always has a protein shake for his first meal of the day.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
