My mom passed away tonight. It was the hardest thing I've ever been through. Our whole family was there and surrounded her as Jesus took her to heaven. Thank you all for your kindness and support. God bless you all.

I am so sorry for your loss. Sending you and your family positive thoughts...

My heart aches for you. I am SO incredibly sorry! It's tough for us being down here in this world, but you can be glad in the fact that she's up where we all are waiting to be someday, with our precious Savior. I will pray for peace for you and your family. ((Hugs))

Mel the triathlon is an excellent idea. im trying the Media 5k in May. im going to make it one way or the other. I did see you are concerned about the bike aspect of the event. im riding my bike now and 8 to 10 miles is highly do-able. just make sure you have a bike shop set the bike up for you and tune it up. i did this with my new bike and it was like night and day as far as effort to peddle the vehicle. also i got a seat called a C9 cloud gel filled seat. its wide and is easy on my hiney. 100% better than the Nazi inspired european ass torture device it came equiped with. let me know how you progress in your training. very intrested......catch you later gator

Thanks for the info! Sorry I have been MiA for awhile. I think that might help to get the bike tuned up. I don't understand all the gears and such on my bike. I rode 2 miles the other day and truly thought I was going to die! I don't know if my seat is a c9 cloud, but it is a Big Butt seat! Bought that a long time ago. I also purchased biker shorts that have padding. Helps a great deal if you don't have any. 2 miles walking/ running (my fiend calls it wunning) seems like nothing and the swim is okay. I was shooting for June 1st, so when I went in for my year visit I could take my medal, but I don't know if that goal will happen now. I'm still working towards it. There is actually a triathlon for women only at my gym, but its in April. Don't feel ready for that one at all.

RJ, can you give me guidance on which fit it to purchase? My Bday is Saturday and I am going to tell my hubby that's what I want.but I will need to be specific with him about which one.

I think of all of you often! I am thinking we need to all meet up somewhere! I could not have survived without all of you during this past year!

I'm struggling. I'm sitting in a hospital room holding my mom's hand. Her kidneys have shut down and hospice comes tomorrow, we are taking her home. The last six weeks have been horrible. I'm hurting, tired and not taking care of myself. I have to get through this I love my mom more than any one. She is my one true constant.

I don't know when this was written. I haven't been on in awhile. I am thinking of you.

Well I'm down another 2lbs, I know it don't sound like much but I will take that than a gain any day. I'm feeling more confident on my eating and portions control. I no longer have that constant hungry feeling I had before but I still get hungry when time to eat. I'm not sure if I will have a 200 mile month this month; I only have 117 miles mostly walking but a few mountain bike rides in there. Weather had a big play but I'm making no excuses. I'm just so thankful but yet afraid in a way that it's all a dream and I might wake up. But each morning when I awake, I have a smile.. And each one of you I have so much to be thankful for and I love you all!

Hi Mel,

I haven't seen RJ on lately, so I thought I would get back to you about the fit bits. I love mine. I got it for my birthday from hubby on Feb 1. I am not really techy and even I was able to figure it out. I got the Fit Bit Force. Unfortunately this one has been recalled. I have not yet turned it in, but I just got an email from the company, so I will be. I will then purchase a Fit Bit Flex, which I believe is the same one RJ has.

I can tell you that it has really helped me to learn that even through I was congratulating myself for getting a work out in every day it wasn't enough. Meeting the flex bit goals - even only a few days a week - has made the scale start to move again. I really liked that the Force had a window so you could actually see how many steps you were at, the Flex doesn't have this feature. But, the Flex is smaller so that will be a plus.

If you have questions, feel free to ask.

Carol

Hi Mitz,

I SO completely agree! I also wake up every morning afraid that this is all a dream or that this will be the day that I begin to lose control and it all ends. But the scale keeps moving for me. I celebrated 9 months yesterday and am down 175 pounds as of this morning. I am not perfect, but I follow my plan very closely. I really feel that I am on the road to long term success. Perhaps that fear we have is a good thing. It is a reality check in a way that keeps us from going back to bad habits.

Keep on smiling! We've got this!! :)

Mel. The fit bit i have is the fit nit flex. Its gives ne all the data i need and is light and my choice cost 99.00 at target

The other one i looked at was the newer one the the fitbit force it give you a tad more data...flights of steps & it acts as a watch. It costs 129.00 the only reason i did not spring for the extra 30 was

1. i already wear a watch everyday

2. i do not feel stairs are a big factor in my daily routine

3.you can read outactial data on the force. The flex are progressove light the mre lights the closer you are to your daily goal. I find this works better for me.

3. they recently had a recall because apparently the force has trace elements of nickle in the band and some people are alergic to nickle.

But 1 & 2 were the main reasons.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you want to talk email me and ill send you my cp no. walkingman180@gmail.com

Aww thank you. It has been tough. My mom passed last Wednesday. She went with all her children and my dad, her husband of 52 years holding, talking, singing and praying over her. I am destroyed but know she's in a better place and I will see her again when it's my time. I haven't worked out in 2 weeks and not eating a lot but trying to get back into my routine. I plan to gym it tomorrow and msde my lunch today. I just have lost an apoetite from nerves but know I need to eat. I am drinking Water which is good.

You all are so special to me. I am thankful for you all. This journey is hard and after seeing ny mom die of obesity related complications it confirms I never want to go back. Less than 20 lbs to goal and then maintenance for me.

Glad to see you back here. You have been in my daily prayers. Sunday will be the one year anniversary of my Dad's death. I find myself dreaming about him a lot lately. Dementia had taken much of him before his actual death, but still, I miss him every day. The best thing you can do to honor your Mom is take care of yourself. Live the life she could have had if not for this awful disease, obesity.

I got the Flex force. Today is my first day wearing it. It's flashing two lights. Not together.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
