liver shrinkage paranoia

Recommended Posts

I'm really worried. I've been sticking to the diet pretty well and I started on Monday. But I really haven't lost a lot of weight. The shakes they listed for me to use have a little more carb than I think they should. I'm wondering if I should call the doc and see if I can sub in some lower carb shakes. I'm really worried. Surgery is June 3 and I don't want anything to interfere with it.

What shakes are you using? I was very paranoid especially since unlike most pre op diets mine was not an all liquid diet. I think you wilk be fine as long as you stick to your diet.

We are allowed 5 shakes a day. Either EAS Myoplex Lite ready to drink, Boost Calorie Control or Glucose control, or Bariatric Advantage High Protein. I've went with the cheaper shakes which is the problem really. They don't have much in them to help with hunger. But I tried a sample of the Bariatric Advantage and I just couldn't drink it. It was so disgusting. So I was afraid to buy a different flavor and spend 60 bucks on something that I wasn't sure I could stand. I can have broth, sf Jello, sf Popsicles, and all the sf beverage that I want though so that's helping.

How much weight on average has everyone else lost on the preop? I'm trying to figure out what kind of weight loss they are looking at, but no one ever said you have to loose X amount of lbs or you have to stay below X amount of calories. So I'm a little in the dark here.

If you lose weight that's great but the main point of the 2 wk diet is to just shrink your liver and that is what the high Protein diet will do. The only time your liver will not shrink is if you basically don't follow the diet. But getting in the proper protein is what will shrink your liver. Plus if they really wanted you to lose weight in order to have the surgery they would have made you really lose weight before now.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
