MAY 2013 POST-OP GROUP

Recommended Posts

It is so strange to read everyone's progress. As I read these I keep thinking, man they are doing great....wish I was doing that great. Then I do the math and say.. Wait a minute, I am doing that good! Surgery was 5/28. Starting weight was 296 (5/2/13). Surgery weight was 284. Today I weighed 230! 66 pounds down! Woohoo! Bought some size 16 jeans this weekend....almost in them! Maybe a few more weeks! So glad I made this decision!

Saw some relatives this past week in Florida. They didn't know and when they saw me, my aunt starting crying. They are so happy for me. She said I inspire them daily now. That is a good feeling!

I am brand new to this website (as of today) and excited to see how many people are on here! I also use MyFitnessPal too. I had surgery May 13th and am down 80 pounds total. I am still extremely positive about this life changing journey! Haven't regretted it once.

I'm 21 days out from surgery and I'm only getting in 150-250 calories a day. I can eat about 6 small bites of anything, whether that's cottage cheese, Beans, Soup, chicken, tuna, egg. I make myself eat 3 times a day because I never feel hungry. Protein Drinks come right back up. I've tried over a dozen different kinds. It amazes me that some of you are able to get in 500-700+ calories a day. I feel like if I could eat that much, I'd have more energy. Anyone else where I'm at?

You will get more in. I get about 500 calories (pre exercise) per day. I sometimes eat 2-3 bites per meal and I am done. But it does get better. I am with you on energy drinks. I have spend hundreds on protein, but haven't found one I can stomach post surgery. Keep going day by day. It will get better.

Really try to get 6 meals a day in. It will totally help you feel better. Have you tried Unjury or nectar or Chike. Those are my favorites. I am 3 mis out and now getting about 850 cal a day. That's with 2 shakes a day.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
