I am 6 weeks out today and I am just now starting to lose weight again...I haven't lost a pound in 3 weeks' date=' but to be completely honest I didn't want to. I was one of those who had the sleeve to bypass revision at goal weight. Since then I'm down to 130 and I'm 46 years old. I didn't want to lose anymore weight anyway so I'm afraid to go back into the weight losing mode now.

Be patient...the weight will start coming off, from what I've read thru posts and online, it's a stall and the weight loss will prevail.[/quote']

I get scared i just had surgery and created a whole host of problems for myself for no reason.

Are you glad you had the bypass? You had so many problems with the sleeve.

Ok well to be honest again...I've had so many problems since the bypass too that I'm afraid that I've caused myself a lot of problems and possibly shortened my life span?? Idk, I worry about all of that now that my life has completely been turned upside down since December...I can't even work! I had problems with both, now I have an ulcer and they can't do an EGD cuz it's too early...and they've doubled my meds, and it's not helping much, haven't been able to eat either. The weight loss was great, 88 pounds total since December, couldn't have done it without, it makes you wonder...doesn't it...if it's worth it?

My gosh thats a lot to go through. Its hard to know what the right thing is? Maybe being 88lbs overweight would be just as bad in the long run.

I had such an easy time with tbe sleeve i took for granted that this would be just as smooth and rewarding. I guess time will tell for both of us.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for checking in on me. I went in for surgery for over 6 hours last Saturday. They found some more complications and I had to get tubed and drains placed. Fast forward a week, I should be leaving ICU soon, transferring to a regular floor. All my tubes are out (thank God). and I have 2 drains left.

Unfortunately after recent work they found a blood clot in my lung, so I'll be on blood thinners for 6 months. Keep me in prayer!!!

I have just read all the posts on this thread and it sounds like people have had issues with the sleeve that, if all goes well, will resolve with rny. For myself, I had the band for 3 years with minimal success. The band started to fail after the first year and a half and never was able to tolerate it. I ended up with a dilated esophagus. My surgeon told me that the sleeve is high pressure and my esophagus issues would not get better. He suggested rny because it is not high pressure. I still wanted the sleeve but my insurance Co. would not pay for the sleeve. I agreed to rny and, even though I am only 3 weeks out I can tell that eating, swallowing and reflux is so much better! I know that I am in the beginning stages, had some issues with pain and Fluid in my lungs, but surgery wise I am glad I did rny. I think dumping is my main fear at this time because there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to what I can tolerate. I don't go any more often than before but when I have to go I get nauseous and have to go now! Hopefully, my body will adapt and this will resolve. Anyways, I hope that helps?

I am so sorry, though, to hear about the complications some of you are experiencing. Prayers that they will resolve and we can all begin to experience all the positives of rny life!

Sue

Officially 4 weeks out...

Just wanted to give a quick update...I hit 4 weeks yesterday and after the hell I went through the first week I'm so glad to be here and to be feeling better. Diet wise I'm still on purees but have started experimenting with soft foods... eggs, ground beef, shredded chicken salad, chunks of vegetables in Soups, so far all have gone down well as long as I keep within my 3-4 ounce limit. Sometimes I forget to chew properly and I can feel that lump of food going all the way down my pouch and into the intestine down the point where my jejunum meets my duodenum (yes I can tell where it is from the discomfort of something too large passing through that point). I makes sure to eat every 3 hours when i'm awake. I haven't started taking my supplements and Vitamins yet. My dr's diet calls for waiting 6 weeks before starting them. I'm watching my fibre intake to avoid Constipation and always include a 4 ounce serving of pureed spinach a day to my diet to keep things regular ;). Still not up to 64 oz of Water, but I'm doing my best to get as much as I can...so far no dehydration. In terms of weight loss... due to the complications I had that first week and having to spend 7 days in the hospital constantly attached to 3 IV's simultaneously... I gained 11 pounds. (I initially thought it was 15 pounds but when I did the math again after my brain cells had come back to life, I realised it was only 11). So while it's not quite correct...including those 11 lbs, I've lost a total of 27 lbs in the 3 weeks since I was discharged . Funny thing, is ....no one has noticed. no one has made a single comment. oh well.... eventually it will be noticeable.

Anyone else had surgery on or around Aug 31st? How are you doing?

Im in the same boat' date=' it stinks[/quote']

Im sorry to hear youre not loosing either mary. Its quite frustrating. Im wondering if there is something special we should be doing with our diets.

I am 3 weeks out and can eat pretty much anything which is weird, plus im hungry all the time which i wasnt expecting. I was never hungery after the sleeve.

Im trying to do the sleeve rules. Protein first..then veggies. I find a need at least some carbs or i feel bad, trying to get them from a little fruit. Still no luck on the weight loss front. Not one oz gone.

Any luck for you yet? If i find something that works ill let you know.

Im getting scared i just spent a bunch of money and aggrivation to buy myself a whole host of health concerns and little else. It seems almost impossible that a person could have a gastric bypass and loose absolutly no weight... Even if it is a sleeve revision.

Sorry for the negativety guys... Pretty down about it today.

I feel for you but am so glad I am not alone. First of all, I am a scale junky and really need to stay off of it! Yes my diet could be better but I too can est anything. I then start to think I eat to much but when I look at my portions I see small ones. My portion was the same tonight as my 5 yesr old granddaughter

How far out from surgery are you? Are you hungery too?

Im scared i have to go back to counting calories... That approach usually back fires on me though... I end up over eating and gaining.

Man... This stinks... I really thought this was the answer.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
