It Hurts.....can anyone help?

Recommended Posts

I have had my band almost one year ago this month. No problems to report. This morning I rolled over and noticed tenderness in my stomach area. It is still tender to the touch. I no longer have insurance that will cover anything to do with the lap-band. Does anyone know why I might be tender today? Nothing happened to cause this...I don't think.

Is the tenderness near your port? If it is near or around your port, is the area (the skin) hot or red and angry? If it's red, hot or upset around the port it could be a sign of erosion and you should see a dr.

Now...if it's around your port but the skin isn't red or angry or hot...it's just painful, I'm betting your rolled over weird and pulled at the stitches that hold your port to the muscle. I do that occasionally and it hurts like a b*tch, but will heal over a week or two.

I've heard the more weight you lose, sometimes the port area becomes tender (not enough fat gaurding it).

Hope your okay -

Thank you for your words of wisdom. It is coming close to that time for me and I think that may be it as well. I also seem to have a extreme amount of gas yesterday too.....sorry for the TMI.

Thanks again and God bless you,

Tonya

I had the same tenderness. Went in today for a fill and was told that my port has completely flipped and will require another surgery to reposition it. I would reccomend that you get an X-ray to make sure your port is ok.

It is not the port area it was wear my band is in the stomach area. All is ok now. Sorry to hear about your port. Do they know how this happened? Thanks for you reply to my question. Have a BLESSED day!!

They say that the sutures that basically tie the port to the abdominal wall must have come out and so there is nothing keeping the port in place. So now my question is what is to prevent it from doing the same thing once it is "fixed?" I am glad to hear you are doing ok now.

I agree how will it stay this time. Did they tell you how the stitches came out? How long ago were you banded? Good luck!!

Good News. I saw the surgeon today and he said that my port is still in place. Apparently, the Physcian Assistant who does my fills misread the X-ray so thank goodness that I dont need another surgery but grrrr to that Physican Assistant who put me through this. Per my surgeon, they will now do my fills with the fluoroscopy which I am happy about since I got stuck a good 8-9 times my last two fills, the last of which was unsuccessful. Looking forward to my next fill since I am not feeling any restriction.

:clap2:

:help: I actually feel bad about not feeling good about the lapband after reading all of the success stories, but I do not like the band. I had it done 8/05 and it has been a rough experience. I lost about 60 lbs, but I have been so sick pretty much the entire time. When I had my 2nd fill, it was so rough that I had to get it drained out. Recently, I have gained about 18 lbs so with prayer, I decided to get another fill. This was an awful mistake. I feel awful and uncomfortable. I know I should not have eaten that cookie, but it was only a bite and I have thrown up about 10 times. I have complained to my dr's office about all of my discomfort from day one, but they make it seem like I'm not giving it a chance. Can someone please provide me with some support? I had told my dr that I wanted the band removed because I am so miserable and uncomfortable. He said he had never removed one which made me feel uneasy and I no longer pursued it. I am strongly considering going to another doctor and 2nd opinion. Can anyone offer me any advice and/or support???:help:

Sorry, you are experiencing so much angst with the band. You should definately seek out a second opinion. Do you have any support groups in your area? They can be helpful. When I initially found out that my band had suppossedly flipped, I did think about getting the band removed. I felt like I did something really stupid to my body by getting the band. But, the surgeon tole me yesterday that my band did not flip and I am scheduled for a flouroscopy fill on 3/8/07. I am hoping to hit my "sweet spot." If that doesnt work, I may be in the same situation as you are? :)

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
