How about some NSVs!?!?

Recommended Posts

On Thursday I had a regular scheduled doctors appointment. They weighed me but I don't believe their scale cause it's not the surgeons office. Anyway, then they took my blood pressure and oxygen saturation level.

It wasn't until after they were done that I realized they used a "regular sized" blood pressure cuff on my arm. That's my first of what I'm sure will be many nsv's. Lol

I cut my hair two weeks ago. That combined with the weight loss keeps people I've known for years to walk past without recognizing me. Including my husband last weekend!

My hubby frantically searching the house for me at 6 am because he didn't see my smaller body under the blankets. He had been up for an hour and panicked because he never seen me come downstairs. Made me giggle! ????

I had surgery Wednesday I'm in a lot of pain and can't drink much is this normal

when I had my surgery in October the issue that I was having was that I could not drink Water without pain and I couldn't drink a bottle of water like I used to. It gets a little frustrating especially when you knew before your surgery that you could drink a liter of water at a time without any issue.

I went into the hospital about nine days after surgery for dehydration. They tell you to drink water and not to drink juice but I discovered that orange juice with Calcium and Vitamin D became my salvation. It was the only way I could stay hydrated for the first two or three months after my surgery. I'm at almost 6 months out now and I can now tolerate water. I don't know if orange juice would work for everyone but my body does not react to sugar or fat's like they told me that it was going to do.

I had surgery Wednesday I'm in a lot of pain and can't drink much is this normal

I used to drink well over 100oz a day and now I'm 3 weeks post op and struggling to get 64oz. If I don't take little sips I too have pain. I think I'm so used to guzzling I forget and drink too much.

I'm reading these NSVs and I'm like yep I've experienced that one and that one and I've enjoyed everyone I have had.... But as I was reading I realized its 930 pm and I'm still dressed and I have been dressed all day in my bra and everything ;). This is a NSV because before losing 146 lbs I could not stand to be dressed. If I was at home I was in my lounge clothes and no bra. Wearing a bra was the devil... Uncomfortable and I hated it so to be dressed all day when I haven't even left the house is a huge NSV for me!!!!!

I am wondering if anyone drinks diet pop don't think we are allowed to but how can I stop helpppp!

I drank a ton of diet Mt Dew prior to surgery. It was my only form of liquid. When I quit drinking it... It took 4 weeks before I really quit wanting one. It was torture. Now I don't even think about it.

I'm in a wedding in two weeks. I ordered my bridesmaid dress about a month ago and couldn't close it when it arrived. I tried it on tonight (4 days post op) and it fits but I actually have a little room in it.

I think I posted before but...

My brother yesterday saw me and said, "if you lose anymore weight you'll be a skinny chic!"

I love it. I still have bunches to lose, but I'll take it!

I had to buy a bathing suit this weekend . . . ugh! I went into the dressing room with one and had to go back out to the rack twice to get smaller sizes. I'm down 45 lbs and I don't think my mind has caught up with the size that I need to be in.

My husband and I went to get new registration tags for the car. I paid with a check so I had to show my driver's license. The clerk looked at the picture, looked at me and said "You look amazing!" She recognized me as having had WLS because her husband also had a gastric bypass and lost 220 pounds!

I have another one! When I got out of the shower this morning, I found a pair of denim shorts on my bed that my daughter had put there. I tried them on and they fit! Size 14 and best of all... No elastic waist band! ????

@@Mommabird My oldest daughter is a big girl, I might actually weigh a little less than her now, but I took over her jeans. I couldn't tell if that made her happy, sad, angry or all of those! I'm still large, but I'll take a size 22 over a 28 any day.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
