I'm a hairstylist so I'm on my feet the entire work day. I took 10 days off, and on the 11th day had to call and cancel my clients because I just wasn't ready. I started back after 2 weeks exactly and was good. Tired but good.

I plan on going back to work 2 weeks after my surgery which will be on March 14th. However, I have very little energy and I am so worried about being able to hold up for 12 hour shifts on my feet. I am a registered nurse. I have an appointment with my surgeon on Tuesday. I will wait and see what he says. I hope my energy returns soon!

I'm hoping for just a week. My surgery is still long away though

I work retail and typically my shifts are 10 hours with a half hour break (which is the only time I can sit). I went back at 3 weeks and spent the first week feeling like it was way too soon. For one thing we were so busy it was hard to get my liquids in and because it was holiday season my half hour break was closer to 10 mins if I was lucky. I originally planned on being out 2 weeks but when it came time my husband put his foot down and I'm glad he did... just take your time, learn your new eating habits and focus on healing.

I took six weeks as I work as RN and I also work 12 hour shifts. I would strongly suggest taking around 2-3 weeks and longer if you can. I know the first two weeks I was tired and just trying to figure stuff out. It is nice to have a handle on eating, drinking and Vitamins before adding the stress of work back into things.

Just shy of a month and it was a good thing because I had that cut muscle/nerve issue and lots of horrific pain...I have a desk job but let me tell you sitting for long periods of time is a killer with pain. Surgery 2/6 back to work 3/5 half days working up to full ...

I'm envious of those that breezed through.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
