I'm five days Post Op and having a hard time

Recommended Posts

Did any one else have a hard time getting in the Water and Protein they needed to post op?

I keep saying I'm going to drink my three Protein drinks but I get half way through one and I'm full. I drink water throughout the day but it's not the 50ox they want me getting

It's like I don't have enough hours in the day to get all the nutrients I need.

I tried using the Unjury unflavored protein in my other foods but I can't stomach the taste.

I can't handle the unflavored. Gag. and yes, it is typical not to be able to get it all in. Just keep really hydrated and work up to your Protein limits. I'm three months out and there are days I can't get it in. Each day gets better!

Milk and a pack of sugar free hot chocolate mix or a fruit smoothie (mango strawberry banana) is my Fav when using unjury unflavored.

It is hard but try not to worry. I don't feel deprived or run down. You just try and make the next day better and each day does get a little easier.

You won't feel hungry post surgery so while mentally you might think about them because you feel satisfied with what you have it's a lot easier to say no.

Plus I've heard once you've had one dumping experience with a food you avoid it like the plague. So even if down the line you do slip up it's easy to get back on track.

As worm said, you won't be able to make the Protein or Water goals for a while. My doctor said the first two weeks focus on staying hydrated. The Protein will come later. So I focused on Water, SF Popsicles Jello and Soup. Good luck! It will get better.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
