Waiting Game

Recommended Posts

I am waiting approval from insurance. I have United Healthcare. Anyone have Amy idea as to how long the process takes?

My surgeons office in RI just sent over all the paperwork yesterday to the Insurance company. The waiting is killing me. They said United Health Care usually takes about a week or less. Good luck! I'm crossing my fingers as well!

I called the surgeons office today and it turns out that they were waiting for my thyroid blood work. I took care of that 2 weeks ago. Got it all straightened out though today and she said she will submit to Insurance today. She said it will be 7-10 days to get approval. One of my docs said that UHC is easy to work with and that it usually takes a week. I guess I have waited 6 months another week to 10 days won't kill me. Just very anxious.

I called UHC today just to make sure they received. All set, they received yesterday and its in review! Omg...I can't wait. It's killing me. This is the worst part. Waiting for the approval.

Hello I just started my weight loss journey and I have UHC Choice Plus thru my husbands employer Saia. I talked to the insurance rep and so did the bariatric nurse and YES they do cover the surgery. I have my consultation on August 11th, but hoping for sooner depending on cancellations. I meet the criteria as far as my BMI goes, but I am a little confused regarding the diet plan. Do I have to show 5 years of weight history or do I have to do the 6 months of doctor monitored diet and exercise. Seems like that is a common questions among everyone. I automatically have to do a 3 month program thru my surgeon, but not sure about the rest. When I asked the insurance rep if there was any additional requirements she said no, but when I look on UHC's sight it says 5 years weight history and 6 months doctor monitored diet plan. So IDK what is what???

I didn't have a 6 month diet or a psych evaluation requirement.

That's sweet. Mine does talk about the 6 months but dosnt say consecutive months so I'm hoping my trips to Ky every other month will work.

I'm so excited y'all. My initial consultation wasn't until the 11th of August but the doctors office called and had a cancellation for tomorrow morning....YEA! Getting the opportunity to start this process 3 weeks early. Excited to speak with Dr. Custer and hear his thoughts and opinions . I will also talk to the insurance person to find out what exactly my insurance requirements are. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

So I had my first consultation wit Dr. Custer and his team. They were all so nice and very informative, I also had my first nutrition appointment. I go on the 21st of this month to have my psych evaluation, dietitian appointment, and see the exercise specialist. next nutrition appointment is on the 19th of this month. I see the Baritition on the 16th of September and then my last nutrition appointment is on the 30th of September. Once I have all these appointments completed then Pam will submit for insurance approval. OMG - I am so excited, I can't hardly stand myself. I have wanted this surgery for about 7 years and now it is right in front of me. I received the approval in the mail on Saturday for my psych evaluation - so that is a move in the right directions. I am hoping for surgery by the end of the year but time will tell depending on what the insurance reviewer says. Wish me luck all, and please keep me informed about yourself and your surgery.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
