RnY surgery date set

Recommended Posts

Hi all. Never thought I'd need a forum like this but here I am. 5'10", 285 lbs, uncontrolled type 2, lipids off the charts, sleep apnea, asthmatic, high blood pressure and the beginnings of neuropathy in my feet.

Decided on the surgery May, 2012. After fighting with the insurance they finally approved it and I'm now 2 weeks out. I've been told to start the liquid diet and lose the 10 lbs. before surgery. After being so frustrated over the battle with the insurance company and now realizing this is actually going to happen I'm starting to get anxious and a little scared. I'm not that impressed with the support I've gotten out of the surgeon's office/staff so far and knowing the support I'm going to need after the surgery is making me even more anxious about the surgery.

I'd appreciate all the feedback y'all could give.

Steevo

Hi steevo, I understand your fear. Try and see if there is a local support group you can attend. My surgery is in four days. I have a two support groups I can attend an I really think it is helpful in our journey. Good luck???? barb

Thanks all. And thanks Barb. I did do some searches for support groups and actually saw that my surgeons office sponsors a local one. Why wouldn't they have told me?!? It's things like that that really frustrate me.

@steevo my group also has a private group on Facebook. Participants post questions and concerns there.. Se if your local group has something like that. I think you can join our group even if you aren't local. It's call monarch support group..

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.
