Fabulous February Post-Op's

Recommended Posts

I'm 10 weeks post op and just starting adding fruits this week (1/2c a day even though I'm not eating that much). This is basically the first real carbs I've had since surgery. I think I'm feeling "hungry" for the first time since surgery. Could the carbs from the fruit be making me hungry? If so I'm don't with fruit. I don't want that hunger to come back.

Hmmm not sure.. I just started melon and it tasted very good and I felt like I could just keep eating it by stopped. Maybe make notes when you start to feel hungry after eating fruit.

Thanks for the messages guys. Had a meatball and sauce last nite and today plus grapes...... What's interesting is I can eat salad with enough vinaigrette... But can't eat chicken and other things I have been cleared to...

But I will take the advice. I have a anniv trip in June and a carribean trip in July sooo gotta get to bathing suit ok size/ firmness....

Watermelon, cantaloupe, and strawberries, spinach salad, avocados, asparagus....this is what i crave now!!! I swear, for the first time in my life I could be a vegetarian.....talk about bad timing. I'm staring at the Protein Shakes right now trying to convince myself to go drink one....I'm only at about 45 for Protein today. Bleh!

I confess that I've all but given up on trying to get as much Protein as I should. :(

I try and make sure I have protein in every meal, but I"m so done with shakes... I try to get two cups of milk in per day, an egg or two, my work lunches usually have 10-18 grams of protein, and supper usually some left-over with protein in it. But I felt like I was force-feeding myself when I tried to get all the protein in.

That's a good thing! I can't wait until mine goes south! I like the fact that you have so much energy! The weight is going to start falling off you and when it does I hope you keep us updated with your progress. I'm proud of you! You inspire me to be more active! Thanks!

Me too! I drink 2 Protein Shakes a day and whatever I can eat in protein. Usually not a lot of food.< /p>

Ok Cecilia and Soccermom I just purchased the Zombie Run app. I'm not quite ready to use it yet but I'm going to work my way up to it. I'll say I. About 2 to 3 weeks I'll be ready. Thanks for sharing!

Is there anyone in a size 2X who is interested in a pair of plain black' date=' just-above-the-knee compression shorts for running in? I will mail them to you. They are super comfortable and make running so much more, well, comfortable. Even if you're just starting a couch-to-5K program, you'll appreciate them![/quote']

I'm interested in the compression shorts!

I had surgery yesterday and feel great! Walked around 3 times last night...a little pain on my left side.

I'm hoping to be like you. I have a pretty high tolerance to pain so I'm not really worried. Can you walk upright? My bed is high (18 inch mattress w 3 inch topper). And short legs. I'm a little worried I won't be able to get in and out of it on my own.

Small step can help.... Sold in kid sections and most stores (furniture, etc).....

If you're new to running, definitely start with the Couch-to-5K Zombies, Run! app. It's a very slow and gentle transition from walking to running. Definitely doable!

A new milestone for me today, I'm under 190!! When the scales said 188 it almost didn't feel real. I'm so happy I made the decision to have surgery.

Surgery date 2/6/13, 224lbs, current weight 188, goal weight 130

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
