Thanks all' date=' I just got back from a brisk 1 HOUR walk listening to music and yelling at myself for being lazy. I even jogged from 8 house away back home pretending I was being chased. LOL. So far today and its 11:09am I have had 1 shake 30g Protein 160 cal and a 20g Protein Bar 180 cal !!! I need to hold myself accountable!

but when you are eating less than 600 calories a day and working out I feel like it should just be falling off.

I agree! But I'm pretty much right there with you with the same intake & approximately same loss. It's frustrating but I know it will happen in time. :)

Type their user name where the email address goes, works like a charm.

I am starting to feel this surgery will not work for me. I was 217 on surgery day and it is 7 weeks and I am only 197. I have lost nothing for 3 weeks! I get at least 50 oz of Fluid in and have been getting at least 60oz of Protein. Confession is that I have not been exercising!! I had an open RNY and recovery was rough and then got bronchitis and am still suffering airway issues but don't want to take steroids. Will walking everyday really move the scale??? I hope so' date=' I am being honest, so no haters respond.

I can't imagine how you could NOT eventually begin to lose real weight. My mom has a serious aversion to exercise, and in a year she's still lost 100 pounds, so exercise is not essential, but it will make you feel better.

Lol maybe I need to pretend I'm being chased :D

May I recommend the app Zombies, Run! and the Zombie 5K training program? The latter follows your basic couch-to-5K (starting with 15-second runs... anyone can do it). The former is more like a game where you collect things along your walk/run, then you have to outrun zombies or lose the items. They're made in the UK, I think, and have really good story lines that break in every so often over your music, or between tracks. I can't recommend enough!

Also, you know what will motivate you? Sign up for a 5K walk/run. Nothing like knowing you need to be fit in 8 weeks to motivate you to stick to the program!

Overall, though, Hang in there ArmyWife&Mom. Have you had a chance to talk to your doctor or nutritionist about this?

Hugs!!! Cecilia

I've been supported by almost everyone since day one with this. Today one of my BEST friends basically called me out on all this, saying she can't support me but tries to "as much as she can". She compared this to having a boob job or LASIK, just another "elective" surgery. She thinks I was lazy and should have just done more to workout and diet. My feelings are SO beyond hurt.

My husband has said the same things to me a couple if times. Saying I've taken the easy way out. I've told him this is one of the hardest things I've ever done. It will be 7 weeks this Friday since my surgery and I've list 57 pounds. I have several complications that make things difficult right now. It's hurtful when we work so hard and struggle and then have our closest people turn on us.

Just keep in mind that you're getting healthy and the negativity is not your problem or fault. Remain positive sand focus on your victories and milestones.

I think my husband is supportive because he knows food is an addiction. He has been trying to quit smoking for a year now and it has been a struggle. So I feel he understands. He also knows this surgery will not be easy because I will have to give up all my favorite foods. He is 6´1" 165lbs and can eat anything and everything he wants. He said he would rather die than go on a diet and give up taco bell so he thinks I am strong to be doing this and to be three days into my all liquid pre op diet without cheating.

Cecilia I got the Zombie 5k training app and will start it tomorrow. Thank you for the suggestion. I am following the program and take in 750-900 calories a day. I don't know if I dump, because I haven't tried anything out of fear.

Has she ever been fat? Has she ever struggled at all a day in her life with food or weight? I would have lambasted her! She is a "friend"? I had LASIK its nothing like bypass its a walk in the park. Easy for someone that has a great metabolism to workout and diet. Some have metabolism issues, some have food addictions , some PTSD. All I can say is your friendship to her that important to you to stay in it? You are brave to have had this surgery nothing lazy about this...sorry I had to dump people that called themselves my friend for issues like this it pushed my button.

Well, I had LASIK 4 years ago and clearly your "friend" has never had it or she wouldn't compare. But that's kind of beside the point.

I have been fortunate that most people that I have told have been supportive, to the point that many people at work have signed up to participate in a few 5ks with me! However, I didn't tell many people before I had the surgery for that exact reason. Sometimes people are fearful of how you are going to change. What if you don't want to be their friend anymore? What if you are skinnier than them? What if you can be more successful professionally? What if you find a beautiful person to be with? It can be any number of reasons. I see my surgery as elective, only in the fact that I ELECTED to have it. I elected to tackle this monkey that has been on my back for 29 of the 33 years i have been on this earth. I elected to stop making myself feel like a failure because i couldnt do this on my own. We all have our own reasons and they are all equally valid.

But if your friend would rather you end up with more difficult health conditions, or dead before you should be, then I guess it is pretty clear where the friendship ranks?

I worry that sounds harsh, but a few years ago I went threw several losses that cost me almost everything and I had to rebuild my life. I figured out what it means to be a real friend.

By chance, just to balance my perspective a bit, could she just be scared for you?

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
