Thank you. I was like you and more nervous about the EGD for the same reason. My fears were calmed when I had several coworkers tell me it was a piece of cake and you are just asleep through it. Good luck with yours too! :-)

Thanks so much. I'm told that some put you to sleep and some give you a sedative to just calm the nerves. We are obviously tough, or we wouldn't be planning to do what we are planning to do!!!

My surgery date is 3-12-13. Everything is complete and I had my preop labs today. I am so excited but I am also fearful!! I have not even told my children I am having the surgery and I don't think I will until post op. I know I would get opposition from them so I choose to not tell anyone and that is why I sought out this forum' date=' for support, encouragement and someone to talk to that knows exactly what I am feeling and then I hope to help others in the same way.[/quote']

You tell whomever you feel comfortable telling. Exactly half of my family is supportive and the other half just tell me to diet and exercise. Oh, wow, what a novel concept. I sure never thought of that before!

I also have to stay under 1000 calories and consume 40-60 grams of Protein. However they want me to stay low carb. Most (not all) Protein Bars are high in carbs. The only low carb ones I have had before are the Atkins. I see quite a few people comment on the good taste of the Premier shakes...are they chalky tasting at all?

I really like the taste of the Premier shakes. No chalkiness at all. I read some reviews and some people complained about lumps but most of those were a year old or so. They must have gotten the recipe right because I haven't had any issues with that...all liquid, no clumps. It tastes like chocolate milk to me :).

The premier brand of protein bars I bought are about 25 grams of carbs so I've been limiting those to one a day. They have a yogurt covered peanut crunch that tastes really good.

Two shakes a day, a Protein Bar and an apple or orange for a snack and then a reasonable dinner. But i went off course last night. We went to Souper salad for dinner. Who would think you could blow your diet at a Souper Salad. Unfortunately they didn't have a low fat / no fat dressing so I went with oil and vinegar. Didn't count on the sugars in the balsamic vinegar...ugh.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
