Doing a 5K..whaaaat?

Recommended Posts

I just registered for my first ever 5K!! I've always wanted to do one and feel like this is the perfect time to do it.

It's not until April so I've got a few months to go, but this is exciting for me. I've never been a runner, but feel confident I can do this!

Has anyone else ever done one?

I have. I ran one last Oct before my 2nd surgury. Using 'C25K' app to train up again. On week 4 now. In early 90's when i was in HS i ran 1/2 & full marathons.

One tip i have is to not do all your running in doors. The streets are alot diff! Hills, curbs, wind, etc. try to mix indoors with outside so its not such a shock cause outside is a bit tougher.

I have a few under my belt. Its a personal best thing. Also when you get caught up in the moment you don't even realize that you're actually doing a race. Take your time soak it all in then wear that new 5k tee shirt with pride.

That's awesome! It's my goal to run a 5k this year. I just downloaded an app called Couch to 5k. The training starts with running 1 minute, walking 1 1/2 minute for 15 minutes... I know I can do that! It really starts with no running background. I'm starting it tomorrow. Good Luck!! You are inspiring me to go ahead and sign up for one.

Way to go! You're beating me, I only walk (brisk) for 30 mins... No jogging yet. Congrats!

I was surprised that I could do it. I was going to do the 1 min walk, 1 1/2 min run, but ended up just running...slowly, but running for the entire 15 minutes.

I'm going to do one in July. I've NEVER been a runner, even when I was thin & in shape. Yikes...

That's the one I'm doing, too! April in Rochester, NY. I've even convinced my husband And so e friends to do it with me. I'm excited to see so many people on here also signing up for 5K's. so empowering.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
