How did you determine your goal weight?

Recommended Posts

I haven't been thin since high school, graduated 1988 at 175ish, and I don't know how to determine my goal weight. I have looked at the national weight charts and on the high side it says 155. I can't even imagine being that small. I am 5'6" and at my highest I was 303 I am currently 280 and surgery is in the morning. The only goal I have set is 60 lbs less by June 1st. How did u determine ur goal?

Good luck with your surgery! That is an interesting question. I would imagine you body will let you know! I am about the same height, and pre-pregnancy I was 130-135. I don't know if I will ever be there again because of age and extra skin. We shall see! Again, best of luck tomorrow!

Hi. According to BMI charts, for your height, your weight should be 115-155lbs... Again according to bmi.. But realy go to where you feel confortable and feel healthy...listen to your body.

For my height, ideal weight is 109-119, at my smallest in high school I was 124. Since then I have added 18 years and 3 kids, so I don't see myself really attaining goal of 109-119, I did set my goal at 125, but expect to be closer to 135. It's always good to set goals a littler higher (well, lower in this case! LOL) that way you maintain focus and don't become complacent. :-)

Good Luck!

First of all good luck tomorrow. According to the bmi charts I should weigh 158 to be in the normal range. My dr said he would like me to weigh 175. I set my goal from the very beginning at 165. I'm currently 174 and in a size 10... Very happy where I am but still working really hard to lose this last 9... Starting from a high weight of 340 I feel like a rock star. I think it's just where you realistically feel you should be.

I'm only 5'2" - my weight according to charts should be what 110 or so? 3 years ago my smallest was 136 and there is no way I could have gotten smaller. I was in the best shape of my life and went from 206 down to 136 with a strict dr approved/food program. Of course once I couldn't afford it the weight came on and then some!

Today I weight 222 and I still hope to get down to at least 140. I weight about 20lbs heavier then someone my size because I do have muscle- that's the only way I know my BMI got me to the surgery point!

I went with BMI chart. Top weight to be "normal" for my height, 5'7, is 158.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
