Fabulous February!

I learned today that put in a deep stitch in the abdominal muscle and my excruciating pain sitting' date=' walking and standing is from that!

So in effort to make it more bearable I received three injections into the nerve bundle in my abdomen muscle OUCH OUCH OUCH but worth it as it made a little more tolerable. Pain didn't disappear but much more manageable. Surgeon told me this pain not uncommon with RNY revision.[/quote']

Did they say why the deep stitch?

HW 245; CW pre-op: 229; Surg Date: 2/26/13

I went to the surgeon for the exact pain you are describing.. It kills me to

Stand or sit. They told me they do a deep stitch in the muscle in a right figure 8 stitch. Also the nerves have been cut and are now rejuvenating and that is causing pain too. I went to see the doctor because of the pain. It hurts SO bad!! I'm glad it's normal and I'm not the only one. Time will be our friend is what he said. The pain meds don't do much for the pain.

My surgery was 2/4/13

Yep went in Wednesday was loaded with lidocaine it helped for few hours only...I'm hoping this pain is on its way out I have to hold the area when I walk or stand. I know muscle takes longer to heal I just wanted to know if that was what I was experiencing ....so far you and my surgery buddy have this type of stitch. Pain do zero for this for me....thanks for letting us know we aren't the only ones.......

I'm on the losers bench!!

Yesterday went pretty good. Surgery only took 1 hour and in have 6 little tiny cuts. BUT for the frat 4 hours after surgery they had me in morphine every hour and it did NOTHING! I was in so much pain I was tense and my back was starting to hurt. I begged for something different and finally they have me another med and WOW the change!! I'm going 3-4 hours in between pain meds now! I've been walking the halls' date=' sure with there was wetter scenery down the halls ;)

Today I get to tart the liquid postop diet! I'm kinda scared to swallow anything!! But am excited for some flavors!

Hope all of you out there are plugging along! What a great decision we have made for OURSELVES!!![/quote']

Oh man.... did you have to say 5 Guys?? On day 3 of Optifast and starving! Although I did just eat the chocolate bar and it was pretty good! Much better than the Peanut Butter and Peanut Butter with chocolate bars. I think it was the consistency, it seemed "normal" if that makes sense.

Have you tried the Soups?

I am scared. I don't have a good track rec under the knife or anesthesia. Seems like something always happens. I am a worrier and though I know statistics, they haven't been on my side before. I can only beg God to bring me through Surg and have no post-Surg life endangering complications..... And I can ask for prayers from all of u, real quick. I know u all are very busy, but I hope u can. :-) God Bless.

btb2013 I'm right there with you. My surgery is the same day as yours! A bit nervous even though I have had multiple surgeries. I have severe asthma and tracheo and bronchialmalacia, which basically means I have a floppy trachea (airway). I have been intubated on a ventilator for days post surgery before. This is why I'm going to have surgery 2 hours from my home at the Brigham Womens in Boston. It's one of the top hospitals in the country and they do all my surgeries because of my breathing issues.

Saying prayers for you.

My surgery was Wednesday morning at 10:30 and it is now midnight on Thursday night. The pain and weakness has been much better today. The nursing staff has been incredible. I have never been through major surgery so had no idea what to expect. But this board has been super helpful! They tell me I should go home tomorrow around 4pm which I am pretty nervous about just because the safety net of the nurses is nice :) prayers too everyone in pre and post op. we are stronger than we give ourselves credit for.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
