New Here, Revision date Jan 14

Recommended Posts

Revision Surgery scheduled Jan. 14, after a major FAIL with the lapband and I'm NERVOUS as heck. Starting to second guess my decision. But I KNOW it's for the best. Is there anyone out there that has a date close to mine, maybe we could become buddies and help eachother out along the way?? :)

Can I ask why you had to have the revision? I have heard alot of people going through this. I can't imagine having two surgeries. But it would be so frustrating if the lapband didn't work. Good luck! You will do great. I had gastric bypass Dec. 18th and I feel great. It wasn't near as hard as I thought.

I had the revision on Dec. 5. I had my lapband for seven years. I only lost about 30 pounds over and over and over again, I had no complications with the band, no slip or errosion. But I was either too tight or too loose and just never found what would work. Also even when losing with the band my diabetes was still way out of control and it did nothing to help that. So after seven years of up and down weight loss and ending up on over 300 units of Insulin a day which caused great inflamation thoughout my body to the point of me being close to homebound, I had the revision. My family Doc and three specialists thought the bypass would be the answer to the diabetes. So I went through the process and even lost 28 pounds pre op. Now almost four weeks post op another 10 pounds gone, And as far as the diabetes it is still there and I still need insulin but about 35 units a day instead of 300 to get the same numbers. So I am still hopeful.

I wish you the very best and I think you will be happy with your decision I really do.

Oh wow. That would be frustrating. It seems like some people either do really good with the band or they don't. I couldn't get it because I have barretts esoghagus.(spelling) But I am glad we went this route. You have done real well with losing weight so far. Congrats. And at least you are on less medicine than berfore. Hopefully you will be able to get off of it eventually. Keep up the good work. Hope you had a great new year.

Thank you so much. I wish the same for you. We can do this. One day at a time, one step at a time.

My surgery is Jan 10. I am nervous too. Maybe we can encourage each other.

Are you having gastric bypass? I was horribly nervous. I thought I was going to die during surgery. I had really worked myself up. Once i came out of recovery, I wondered why I had done that to myself, I didnt think it was bad at all, Not very much pain, I had the gas that killed my chest and back, but the biggest thing that helps that is walking, So I walked as much as I could.

Mine didn't end at all. I was all the way up til they put me under. But now I ask myself why I made such a big deal, I think the worst thing about it all, was the gas that you have to walk off and the catheter. You will do great!

Was it hard to get your insurance to pay for the revision? What went wrong with your band? I've got to go thru the same thing but I've still got about 3 1/2 months to deal with the insurance requirement.

I had a revision from band to gastric bypass on 11/6 and my insurance covered it, I did have to go through the 6months of weigh ins, nutritionist, and an evaluation but it was allll worth it!!

I'm only down 25lbs and I get frustrated with that BUT had I not done it I would not have lost that weight so, teaching myself to be thankful instead of being so hard on myself

I didn't have any issues with the band other than I wasn't losing the weight and there was a smallllllllll slip but my dr says he's had a lot of revisions after 4-5yrs!

Good luck to u!!! Don't give up!

That's great! I just don't want them to come up with no foolishness to prevent me from getting it approved. I hope my Dr office has their wording right.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
