I can't stress eat, but I need something

Recommended Posts

My grandma, to whom I owe my life, is dying. She has lung cancer and pneumonia. It's a matter of days. Before I would stress eat or stop eating. I don't know what to do with myself. I cry and cry, it's so hard to eat or drink and I just have all this time to be upset. What substitute can I use for my typical stress response to food?

Prayers are with you and your family in your family time of need. I will keep your family in my prayers. Honestly you can write down your feels thoughts memories ect... In a journal, talking to support people , walking and thinking, crying praying, make sure you take care of yourself eating drinking even thought you might not want to but you need to. Picking up new hobbies knitting crosswords puzzle books. Exercising and releasing stress that way . I don't know if this is helpful but that's all I can come up with at this moment. If you need someone to talk to inbox me I'm here. Remember you need to take care of yourself . Take care and keep us posted

Lisa,

Sorry to hear about your grandma. Have you tried exercise? It will get your heart pumping and will allow you to channel your energy. My stress relief is playing soccer. Maybe check into a kick boxing class or some other class that interests you. When you start feeling the urge to stress eat try to imagine the new you. People say Yoga is a stress reliever, but I recently read a book that put it best to me - If God meant for our legs to be over our necks he would have made us that way. Find a hobby that you can do when you have that urge to eat. Hang in there and remember we are always here for you!

I'm less than 2 weeks post op so not hard exercise yet. I'm also in my last week of classes and I'm so behind. I just can't focus on anything.

Lisa, I'm so sorry. Take it day by day. I know its hard to focus right now but try to focus on your health and mental well being. Your grandmother would want it that way. Knitting or crocheting is a great way to focus. Walking does help a good deal as well. Prayers and hugs!

Oh Lisa I'm sorry - shouldn't you have been excused for a month or so?

I am less than 2 weeks post op, and I've had incisions open and still have a ton of pain. I'm only cleared for easy walking. I've walked around the block so many times lately, it's crazy.

It is ok to cry as much as you need ! nothing you do to full your time will make it any better in the beginning. This Christmas will be our first with out my dear grandmother she passed last year on Christmas eve. Each tear just shows how much you love her. I think a memories journal is a great idea the lessons she shared with you the funny things she has done or said things to share with others or start making a photo album or viedo slide of fun memmories. prayers for you and your gram.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
