Recommended Posts

Went for my one month post-op appt yesterday and my surgeon said that i'm not losing as much as i could because he doesnt think i'm taking in enough calories and my body is in starvation mode. This is such a weird adjustment to my life!

I'm obsess with calories. I check everything & salt & sugar. I can't get 1200 calories in but I'm trying. It's not easy plus we eat far less then we used to.

I hope to be able to eat beef, chicken and fish because they are high-protein. Tofu is another high-protein source.

I have been eating so much salmon that my entire body smells like salmon so I am working I diversifying my Protein sources. Tofu seems to be the very best - and the one that does not cause a bad body odor.

I have talked to my dietitian and she said calories are not a huge deal because you should be keeping the total Less than 10 and saturated fat 0-2 and as much Protein you can get. Water/fluids and protein is the major thing right now. I'm only a month out so it could differ for everyone.

that's why I asked yesterday because I seen most saying they can only get about 300-400 a day in and I know with just one Protein Shake is 160+ or powder Protein with milk 200+ so I was worried I was eating and drinking too many calories but she said everyone can consume more or less and some can eat only one to two bites and some can eat 1/4 cup. so I'm not stressing about calories any more

Sometimes i think this group is helpful but other times i think reading it adds to my frustration bcuz everyone has different advice/instructions from their surgeon and nutritionist.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
