Not Eating Enough...never Thought I'd Hear That!

Went for my one month post-op appt yesterday and my surgeon said that i'm not losing as much as i could because he doesnt think i'm taking in enough calories and my body is in starvation mode. This is such a weird adjustment to my life!

  • Sometimes i think this group is helpful but other times i think reading it adds to my frustration bcuz everyone has different advice/instructions from their surgeon and nutritionist.

I'm obsess with calories. I check everything & salt & sugar. I can't get 1200 calories in but I'm trying. It's not easy plus we eat far less then we used to.

That's funny you say that I went to my one month post op and the nut said that I'm starving myself and need to up my calories to 1000 to 1200 a day and my protein should be 90 and up grams. I'm usually eating 550 to 650 calories and I've lost 35 lbs. ooh forgot 3 litres if water since I drink one lol this is not funny

Yes calories are big u have to get at least 1200 in and get Ur protein in that makes a big difference and drink alot of water

Wow. Im lucky to get 250 calories some days....ive got work to do

I hope to be able to eat beef, chicken and fish because they are high-protein. Tofu is another high-protein source.

I have been eating so much salmon that my entire body smells like salmon so I am working I diversifying my protein sources. Tofu seems to be the very best - and the one that does not cause a bad body odor.

I still have not tried tofu..i think I'm afraid haha!

I have talked to my dietitian and she said calories are not a huge deal because you should be keeping the total Less than 10 and saturated fat 0-2 and as much protein you can get. Water/fluids and protein is the major thing right now. I'm only a month out so it could differ for everyone.

I am 6 weeks post op and doc told me today not to worry about calories but not to go over 1000 and to get at least 75-80 grams of protein in and to definitely exercise

On a good day I still don't get in 1200 calories per day. Lets see how is my test tomorrow. I have a appointment tomorrow & I know they gonna test my blood. I know I'm low on everything.

It is still hard to get in that much protein....

I'm 6 months and I'm averaging about 600 calories a day. I can't imagine 1000!

that's why I asked yesterday because I seen most saying they can only get about 300-400 a day in and I know with just one protein shake is 160+ or powder protein with milk 200+ so I was worried I was eating and drinking too many calories but she said everyone can consume more or less and some can eat only one to two bites and some can eat 1/4 cup. so I'm not stressing about calories any more
