  1. Anyone develop hypoglycemia after RNY? I wasn't diabetic before but am having low blood sugar levels now.
  2. Went for my one month post-op appt yesterday and my surgeon said that i'm not losing as much as i could because he doesnt think i'm taking in enough calories and my body is in starvation mode. This is such a weird adjustment to my life!
  3. Sometimes i think this group is helpful but other times i think reading it adds to my frustration bcuz everyone has different advice/instructions from their surgeon and nutritionist.
  4. I am just over a month post-op and i am not losing pounds as fast as i should be (even the surgeon agrees). I am losing inches though...wearing clothes that have hung in my closet for 2 years. I weigh myself everyday...i can't help it and it is sooo frustrating because it isn't moving much.

    Working out?

Walk my dog every morning, yoga a couple evenings a week and plan to start water aerobics when my incisions are all the way healed.
  6. It should be a percentage of ur starting weight so some will be more than others. My surgeon said he thinks my body is in starvation mode cuz i'm not getting enough calories.

    Nauseated On Protein

I LOVE the Pure Protein shakes and have been eating a can of tuna. Just those two things = 55g of protein

    Wedding Dress....

Check with a place like David's Bridal and ask about timelines.
  10. I was told it was a percentage of ur body weight. My starting weight was 270 and the surgeon said i should be down about 15lbs a month for the first 6 months.

    Milk!

I like soy milk because it has higher protein than almond or rice milk. Lactaid is okay too

    Scared

The mixed emotions continue after surgery as well. I live by myself over 1,000miles from home so friends usually have me over for holiday meals. I was on pureed foods so i stayed home. I was depressed and felt cheated out of that social time. I'm always excited for the new me but mourn the loss of my old, comforting friend...food.

    Ice Cream Anyone?

So true Worm, our old comforting habits helped get us here. I am nervous to see how much i can have without dumping. What if i am someone who doesn't experience it at all?! I need that extra fear to avoid stuff that is bad for me.

4 Weeks And Only 20 Pounds

I feel your pain! I have my 1 month follow-up on Dec 4th and i am going to ask the surgeon to give me numbers. I am 2.5weeks out and down 13lbs. I think when i heard how fast the weight "fell off" i expected more too. Hang in there!

    Ice Cream Anyone?

My surgeon's office had several rules i had to promise to follow for the rest of my life...no ice cream was one of them. Sad but it is prolly good, that would be a slippery slope for me personally.

Magnesium Citrate How Do I Do This?

    First Egg

Lucky you! I can't handle eggs yet...hurts my stomach. I am in the pureed stage and have yet to feel full. I slowly eat small amounts and stop when the time limit is up. I get an uncomfortable gassy feeling sometimes but i honestly don't remember what it feels like to physically be full.
  19. I love seeing everyone's awesome success but it also makes me sad because I am not losing as fast. I'm getting my protein and liquids and some exercise (I'm still on lifting restrictions). *sigh*

    Mirena!

I asked my Dr about an IUD for after surgery but he measured my uterus and said it's too short because i've never had a baby (which is usually the case). He said if i were to have it put in, my body would expel it. He strongly encouraged me to consider the NuvaRing. I was on the pill for 15 years and haven't had a "regular" period since i went off the pill a month pre-op.

    Post Op Depression

The psych that runs the support group i go to said it's very common because our bodies experienced a major trauma (which is what any major surgery is).

    I Can't Wait Till....

I am less than 3 weeks post-op but i have lots of things i'm looking forward to: -being able to buy/wear boots that'll fit over my calves -flying and not having to get a seatbelt extender -hike with my friends without wanting to die -wear shorts for the first time in ??? -shop in a store that isn't just for big girls -go to an amusement park and ride a roller coaster and not being afraid i won't fit and being miserable standing on my feet all day. -buying a bra at Victoria Secret! Important things to remember on a day when i am missing friends, family and food.

I Am 8 Days Out And Struggling

I struggled too. When i went for my 1 week post-op the nurse (who has also had RNY) stressed to me the importance of liquids. Protein is important but liquids are MORE important for your whole body. She explained without liquids i was gonna end up back in the hospital...no thanks! Maybe try to focus on getting ur liquids in and whatever protein u can is a bonus? Good luck!
