November 25, 201213 yr Author I haven't had dumping once yet. But yeah, I brought an individual size of coffee ice cream. I'll wait on it..
November 25, 201213 yr I can do the carb smart ice cream, or the no sugar added ice cream. Just a little.
November 25, 201213 yr My surgeon's office had several rules i had to promise to follow for the rest of my life...no ice cream was one of them. Sad but it is prolly good, that would be a slippery slope for me personally.
November 25, 201213 yr What exactly is dumping? can someone be specific? and no ice cream ever? I wasn't told about that Thats going to be very hard because i love ice cream its one of my comfort foods.
November 25, 201213 yr Dumping is a "side effect" of RNY. Since you have a smaller stomach and less intestine for the food to process through, sweets and fats can cause dumping. Dumping is when the food moves to fast in the system causing hot flashes, vomiting and diarrhea . Really horrible! Not all patients have dumping but it is awful when it happens. Some folks are ok with SF FF ice milk or frozen yogurt. There are even Greek high protein ones now. But the days of the DQ blizzard are gone. Hard for me but it was something I was willing to give up for all the other benefits. They did me no good in the past. Good luck.

I can't puke or poo during thus but immediate rest helps. I usually nap for awile after
November 25, 201213 yr So true Worm, our old comforting habits helped get us here. I am nervous to see how much i can have without dumping. What if i am someone who doesn't experience it at all?! I need that extra fear to avoid stuff that is bad for me.
November 25, 201213 yr closest thing i have done is a box of Yasso frozen Greek Yougurt pops not bad tasting and got protein in with it
November 25, 201213 yr Closest I've had was a Skinny Cow No Sugar Added Ice Cream Sandwich. It was under the sugar count and fat count limits that my surgeon/bariatric center recommends so it worked great. At least at Disney they offered this option while my hubby ate a regular Mickey Head icecream sandwich. I don't normally choose the ice cream or sweets because I can survive without them and have really tried to limit those things. I wouldn't recommend the full fledged sugar/fat type ice creams to anyone. It's not worth the risk of dumping or even worse...worth finding out you don't dump! Knowing you don't dump and not being fully prepared mindwise can lead to using it once again for a comfort food with the risk of over use.
