January Dates

Recommended Posts

Good Luck to all those having surgery today. Just got done working the night shift. I have one more to go and then tomorrow afternoon I leave for my surgery that is on Thursday. I can't believe it is almost here-wow has time flown by. The hospital is 2 1/2 hours away from me so I have decided to stay in a hotel the night before as ND/MN weather is so unpredictable and I am sure I will have to be at the hospital early. A nurse will call me tomorrow afternoon to give me more details about when I have to be there and what time surgery is scheduled for. Have a great day..

Did you gain any from surgery (gas and fluid)?

I'm never exactly sure what to include, its confusing since I came out heavier than when I went in. If I go from when I started my pre-op liquids I was 236.8, went down to 233.8 dos, (loss of 3) then up to 239.8 so a gain of 6, and am now at 225.1. Do I count the 6lbs I gained and then lost from surgery (14.7) or do I just say I lost 8.7?

See, this is what happens to a brain lacking caffeine-nothing but mush, lol. ;)

I did gain! I gained 9lbs when I got home but quickly lost it. I count my total weight loss for both 2 week liquid diet pre-op and weight loss after surgery!

Best news of all? I've been passing gas! Lol! I think I'm on my way now and the long bumpy road is about to finally smoothen a bit <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> By the way' date=' passing gas is a GREAT SIGN. All you post-oppers must look for this. I've been walking TONS and this seems to be the ONLY thing that helps. After 4 days, I think I may be able to try ice chips and Water today at the hospital after swallow test. Very excited![/quote']

So glad to hear you are on the right road to recovery! Prayers are coming your way! I also wanted to thank you for the amazing positivity you give- even when you are at your lowest with good reason! Hang in there girl!

Don't count the Water weight. Count from when you went in on DOS. :-)

Ok so today should be my morning. I scheduled to be in the hospital at 9.15 am and I am hoping they will still do the surgery as I have Hana cold since Monday but been on a high dose of meds. Clear when I blow my nose but I lost my voice because of the extreme cold we have had over the last few days which normally happens this time of year. I can take a deep death with no problem but still feel dry in the nose.

Wish me good luck as my family came from Ohio to MA to take care if my three kids for me so they are counting on today being the day as my husband works a lot. They can't come back for a few months I today isn't it.

Thanks for the good thoughts.

Shannon

I am in and ready to go. Just waiting for the dr to cow but all my tags are on and they said 10.45-12.45 and then recovery. Wishing everyone a great day. I still don't have a voice but I don't think I will be talking for a little bit after.

Just got the call from the hospital and I have to be there at 0630 am tomorrow. I am as ready as i will ever be. I have worked 12 hour nights that past two days with only minimal sleep and I am sure tonight I wont sleep well either. Good thing I will do alot of sleeping tomorrow. I have an awesome surgeon at a BCBS distinction center and center of excellence. I am hoping for no complications but will deal with whatever happens. I have an awesome support system at home with family and friends and all you awesome people on here that are doing this right along with me. If I do get a chance to post I will otherwise I will update everyone when I get out of hospital. Typical stay is 2-4 days, so Saturday or Sunday. I want to thank all those who have posted on here about their experiences and things we should do to help us along the way... :)

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
