I also took four weeks and, like Teka2011, am fortunately being paid. My surgeon said 2-3, my primary care doctor said 4 and said she'd sign off on whatever the surgeon didn't approve. I was out 2 1/2 weeks with my gallbladder surgery and was *exhausted* when I went back, so I figured 3 weeks, minimum. My job is not terribly physically active, but families can be demanding and there is a fair amount of bending and reaching...plus the ongoing possibility of being kicked by a toddler who doesn't want his ears touched!

I have a desk job; my surgeon said expect 6 weeks. Seems pretty realistic when I recall what my husband went through with his surgery. Ideally, work would like me to return in 3, but it's up to me. I'll probably come back at 1/2 time the 1st week I return so I can ease back in. I'm very thankful that I have sick leave and vacation time, (and if needed SDI) so I don't lose out on pay.

My surgery is Monday, I have been getting prepared (mentally, and shopping for post op supplies). I am getting nervous not so much about having surgery (1st time for me) but about recovery. I am a wimp when it comes to pain. I know that the pain will subside, just been worried about it. This has been a yearlong process, a longtime goal, and I am so excited to start a healthier lifestyle. I am on day 8 of my liquid diet, i am so happy that my stomach and my mind seemed to be adjusting.

How is the liquid diet going? I am also more afraid of recovery pain. I think it has a lot to do with just naturally fearing the unknown. I pray you have a veryvspeedy recovery!

The only pain is the 6 sites on your belly. And because they had to go through muscle, those will be sore. I never felt anything on the inside. You wouldn't know your stomach doesn't feel any different. That being said, you obviously need to drink sips of liquids and follow the drinking guidelines. You will be ok.

That's good to know nothing feels different on the inside. I'm always afraid I'm going to literally FEEL the physical re-routing of my intestines and the smaller stomach. Lol. Maybe I watch too many movies.

Any suggestions on any items I should stock up on before I come home from the hospital

sugar free (SF) Popsicles or fudgesicles, SF Jello, SF pudding, chicken - beef - vegetable broth (which ever you prefer), Vitamins (liquid or chewable Calcium + D and multivitamin), non-Carbonated, non calorie drinks, Decaf (Gatorade G2, Powerade zero, Vitamin Water zero, unsweetened tea, coffee, skim milk - soy - lactose free (which ever you need), Protein powders or shakes, light - low sugar or carb controlled yogurt, cream of Soups (to be strained of vegetables or chicken), crystal light, SF Kool Aid

Might need milk of magnesia. I recommend for Calcium + D, Wellesse. It is a liquid. You can get it at Walmart and many other stores. It comes in orange flavored, SF, tastes a little like orange sherbet.

Good luck all of January Surgeries :-)

I liked the unjury chocolate Splendor and the unflavored. Warning: there is a taste with the unflavored however I loved it in the cream of Soups. I didn't try it in Jello. But once you are off liquid diet, you will probably find more uses for it in other foods :-)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
