What timeframe are you looking at? For me, the Protein shakes from costco three times per day plus lots of Water worked great. I lost about 25-30 lbs in about 15 days (pre-op period).

Highest: 420 lbs, Now: 380.3 lbs. OpDate: 8/17/12. On 4th day of 2-week all-liquid dt. Place: Cleveland Clinic, Weston, FL.

That's really good. I bought the same for my 30 day diet. I call it imitation slim fast.

I looked at those yesterday...the premade ones...I started to get them...do you like them? Choc or vanilla? I just tried the Special K shake. It was VERY good. I'm preop, so I better finish them preop since they have 18g of sugar in the 10oz shake!!

I lost about 12 before my surgery but substituting 1 meal a day with a Protein shake and the other meals were Protein based...kinda like Atkins but, without the high fat meats.

I had eggs in the morning, a shake for lunch and then a smaller portion at dinner but, ate the protein first. Kinda like we have to do after surgery really. If I felt I needed a snack I had lowfat cheese sticks, a yogurt or an apple or cutie orange.

I lost 14 on my pre op. I was allowed to have Clear Liquids (broth, Jello. White grape juice and tea). Also all of the vegetables I wanted.

I was on a full liquid diet the week before and lost 11 pounds and then clear the day before surgery.

Has your doctor given you any pre op info or scheduled you for a seminar?

I have to lose 15lb too. I have until Oct 24, that my pre op appt and surgery on the 30th. My appt with dietician isn't til Oct 4 so trying to follow a diet my scheduler gave me. Not going that well but I'm determine to get it done. I have to. I started back at the gym so hopefully that will help. I'm going to try the full liquid diet on my own before my appt. We can do it. Do you have a deadline?

My Dr doesn't require a pre-op diet but does expect you to lose weight prior to surgery. Have to lose 20 lbs. I actually wish there was a pre op diet because I'm in that same awful familiar cycle of dieting. I'm thinking of starting Protein Shakes as at least one Meal Replacement now (no surgery date yet) and increasing that to 2 meals later...maybe all three. Thoughts?

I'm speaking just for me, but I empathize completely with you feeling like you're in the old cycle. I would want a firm date for me to be responsive with a 20 lb loss! That's a lot. Good luck!! My surgeon just requires that I be under my initial consultation weight. Right now I'm about 4 lbs above it, so I'm trying to get at least 10 off! I need a good buffer in case my scale is different from theirs. I would be devastated to have my surgery delayed over 10 lbs.

That is exactly what I am dealing with!! I have been hard core dieting changed my calories from 1500 to 1200. Upped my Water intake and exercising a little more since August 23 and have only lost 3 pounds. I was told to lose at least 5 pounds by september 24. My weigh in is in the afternoon so I know I need to to lose more then the 5 pounds I was told to lose.

Maybe try fasting for a day or a day and a half? There's always an enema :-0

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
