How does weight lifting effect weight loss?

Recommended Posts

Weight lifting can be both aerobic and anaerobic. Back when I was a football player in college, we had trainers who would tailor our workouts to build lean muscle mass and maintain a heart rate that would promote weightloss and fittness. They were essentially circuit training exercises. Lifting weights, stretching etc. The weights we did were light and done in bursts. As many reps as possible in a 40 second time frame using good technique and form, with 20 seconds rest between sets. 2 sets per station before moving to the next. We would do this everyday and took about 1 hour doing 2 laps around the 15 stations. Not only does your heart rate stay elevated the entire time because you are quickly moving from station to station, but you are gaining lean muscle mass. The kind that best burns fat. Good luck. I have just started to get back into training again - so hopefully that will help me shed the weight faster.

My doctor said that lifting weights will help in burning fat---I do cardio and weight training every day i exercise (3-4 days a week). I do the eliptical machine for cardio and weights for legs and arms. My core I end up doing floor exercises or w/ the ball. keep up the good work to everyone. ;)

I used to exercise but saw such slow results.. I know stength training works, but do I have to drag myself to the gym before my surgery on the 8th of Nov? I'd rather spend my time watching my food intake and sipping my pre-op diet (2 Protein Drinks and 1 small meal). Did anyone use Medifast drinks for thier pre-op diet?

Truly, I'd focus on lots of cardio between now and then, there's not a lot of point getting into a strength training program only to have to lay off it for six or eight weeks.

But get out there and walk daily! It will improve your outlook, increase your weightloss and have you in better shape on the day - which means better recovery!

You don't want to body build so do less weights and do more reps or you will gain because you're gaining muscles. And always rest you muscles and do your protien please.

So now it becomes real for me... one more test then i get my surgery date. I am almost worried ... something that i never thought i would feel at this point. not that the surgery wont happen or wont go well... but that my body won't recover as well as my health will...

anyone have any idea how the skin reacts in men... personal stories... im 24 now and i have been fat all my life... Almost. So now that im going to change that will i have to be constantly reminded of how i used to treat my body?

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to. And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed. I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
