Can someone with weight loss surgery successfully live with a unhealthy person / eater & smoker? I'm moving forward with wonderful new lifestyle changes, but my husband is not on board. I really see it to be impossible to both move forward in different directions. Ex: he drinks at least 6 cans of cokes a day, want to eat at a restaurant or fast food every chance he get and is a smoker.

I know many relationships that have worked. Would it be great if they were on board? Of course! But we cannot expect others to change their lifestyle because we have chosen too, especially if you met him this way and it has been okay with his behaviors till now. Maybe if you communicate to him how important this is he can either refrain from doing this around you and maybe he will surprise you by making a couple of healthier choices. Good luck!

I kind of have the same issue. My husband is a secret smoker, has diabetes and high blood pressure! Althoigh he doesnt look unhealthy and overweight he is. He used to wiegh less than me, but now since Ive become smaller and more healthy conscious, it seems he gets jealous and in turn purposely do the unhealthy non supportive stuff. I feel your pain!

My fiancée kinda eats what he wants which since I'm only 1 week post op it's hard to watch him eat things that I would love to have. But I chose to have this surgery for myself. He did say he wants to try to eat better bc I'm starting to motivate him by loosing weight everytime I hit the scale. He is 5'7 and 170 so is normal weight. I knew that part was gonna be hard goin into this so I believe it will be just fine :) good Luck girl!

Most of us went thought WLS not just for our selfs but for our kids and loved one. Would be nice if they would join in and become healthier with us.

If not for my wife and son I would never have taken this Journy . She has been by my side though out this hole thing and has done more Reserch them I have. And slowly she is getting rid of all the bad stuff in the house.and teaching the boy about Portion Control and healthier choices. Like carrots or apples over hohos or cupcakes.

Hope all can get their significant other to joins in it is for the best

Thanks guys!! I really needed some outside opinion. He said this adjustment is really hard on him. I'm also having issues eating and drinking so I'm super bitchy when he walks around with I've cold coca cola! Now I'm wondering if the food is bothering me or is it really he's so happy and I'm suffering a little??

Also, I'm pretty scared to eat and I feel like he's always trying to feed me food. Yes, my calories are super low, but I feel like I'm in control that way.

Give him a chance it not only hard on you but it's a change of life style for him as well. What he was used to is not the same any more. And who better to know how hard it is to change then US

My wife miss going out to eat and time alone with just me In the beginning . and though it's only been 4 week post op she has adjusted. She's the one that's more into eating health I just try to get in my Protein and food

Have patience

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
