Psychological Evaluation?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I have a question for those of you that have made it past the Psychological Evaluation. When it was time to do the Psychological Evaluation did you have to see the Psychologist once or more than once? Also, did insurance cover the visit or visits? The reason I ask is because I spoke with a psychologist this morning who said it would take four visits for her to do her recommendation for me to have wls and then an extra hour to write the actual letter and she also said that insurance would most likely cover the visits but that she charges $140.00 for the hour to write the recommendation and that I would be responsible for that. Does what she said sound right to you all? I am pretty confused. By the way my ins. Is United Healthcare:)

I only had one visit. She also said that she had to write a report and the insurance might not pay for it, but it did. I have Anthem BC/BS. Did your doctors office made a recommendation for you to she that person? Maybe can can shop around for someone else.

I only had one visit and a "test" (which was more like a survey on drug/alcohol use, eating patterns, and emotional balance). My insure covered some of the cost buy my additional fee was only $40 to cover the test analysis... Plus my psychologist had my letter written in about 5 mins.

My work has 2 insurences. The mental health insurence is United Behavorial Health. My surgeon works with a specific therapist who for the 2 hours cost $550.00. He was not in network. That involved the test and talking with him for an hour. He didn't charge me seperately for the write up...but it has to be said. All I could think the entire time was how this wasn't worth the money. But in the long run it will be.

I completed the questionnaire and met with the psychologist one time. She never mentioned any charge for the report so I assume insurance - Aetna - paid it.

I have UHC. My Psychiatrist I have been seeing for a few years wrote the letter for me. It was one visit and paid nothing. He is in network, so that's why no fee.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
